I was given this beautiful deck yesterday. I know it has been around for a while, but I'd love to hear from others who have the Cosmic and are still enjoying it. :)
Is there a companion book, and is it worth buying?

The Cosmic Tarot was my second deck.
I couldn't work with my first but I loved learning and I still love to do readings with it.
I bought it as a set.
And yes there is a book written for the deck and it's very good.
It has descriptions of all the cards on a cosmos, human community and an individual level of all the majors and descriptions on the minors are somewhat shorter.
In the back of the book there are 3 spreads and two games included.

I got it from the internet about 3,5 years ago and had to wait for 5 weeks for it because I live in the Netherlands.
I hope you can still order it somewhere.
Try the internet or a local bookstore.

This is my working and study deck. It's a melange of Thoth (uses princesses rather than pages) and RWS styles. Some of the cards completely depart from standard RWS images (e.g. 3 of wands and 6 of swords) and the deck images vary widely in time period, ethnicity and geographic area depicted.
It is not an easy deck--each card tends to have a wealth of esoteric symbols to
astrological signs, flowers, hermetic symbols, pyramids, etc.
But it does have a sly sense of humor---the Hierophant is holding a Cosmic deck tarot card.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Thank you, Snowy. :)
I'll try and find the book.

I don't like easy decks, and find the wealth of symbols very interesting, especially since I'm doing an in-depth study of symbology at the moment.
I think it might well become a daily deck for me.

I used this deck as my main reading deck for a while. I think the meanings of the cards lean more towards Thoth than RWS and that's one of the reasons I like it so much.
A couple of the cards seemed very negative and that's what put me off it. The 10 of Swords and the 7 of Pentacles immediately spring to mind. The 10 of Swords reminded me a lot of a previous boyfriend who had mental health problems. I think this is one of the reasons I stopped using this deck - I just couldn't get past that image.
The Court cards are wonderful though. They really helped me to get a handle on the courts. They look like real people so you really get a feel for the personality behind the image.
This deck has a few of my favorite cards of all time: The Magician, The High Priestess and The Hermit are just stunning.
Enjoy your deck :)

I don't have anything to tell you. But, I hope when you use it, you tell us all about it! :) I'm very interested in this deck. I love the cards and how they are full of symbols! I was thinking about buying it but didn't get around to doing so.

I have had the deck for about 6 months now. I haven't used it much but that is only because I have studying other decks. I have the perception that this is a really underrated deck. The artwork is really good. I love the colours. I really like the backs of the cards- the black looks really classy!
I plan on working with this deck in the future and definitely won't be letting it go.
Regards,
Ian

Hi Sulis,
I definitely agree that the 10 of swords can signal mental illness. I also see it as breaking out of destructive mental habits/paradigms. If you look at 10s as the culmination of the experience of that suit, by the time you get to 10 you've accumulated many, many strongly held ideas that are often distortions, or limiting--they hold you in one place as you THINK that you MUST do/be a particular way or that you CAN NOT be/do a certain thing, etc. The image is a crystal or perhaps a mirror holding an image that is shattering---rays of light seem to be breaking it up or emerging from it. So in this deck I look very heavily to the remainder of the spread to see which way the card aspected.
next post---my take on the 7 of pentacles.
peace,

This is wonderful, Sechat! I look forward to your insight on the 7 of pentacles, since you seem well acquainted with this deck, and I'm just starting with it. :)
