hi guys. that last thread got me wondering... what do most of you cast spells for? protection? money? love? clarity? ??? I have never really cast a spell... though I do have that Tarot Spells book. I figured I'd wait until there was a spell I really felt moved to do. So far, none. But, actually, just the thought that I CAN cast a spell works in a strange way -- if that makes sense. Just knowing that I have the power to change things and focus my energy, actually helps me to focus, rather than doing "by the book" spells. So maybe in a way, that is a spell... ahh, okay, I'm getting off track...
so. what do you guys cast spells for? and... while we're at it... where do you get your spells? books? homemade stuff? do they work for you? ... any spell book reccomendations? (other than Tarot Spells?) ... All these spell questions!
:) thanks.

I haven't actually "formally" cast any spells, but I do have a lot of charm-type items that I've charged, mostly for protection. I'm more of a prayer type than a spell type, I guess I'm too self-conscious to perform all of the ritual that goes with spell casting! Plus lazy!! They seem like they require a tremendous amount of energy. I don't know if this answers your questions or not, but there it is!! :)

I have cast spells for protection and for a job...The Job spell worked and the protection spell works most of the time, There are actually two, One for the house one for the car and truck. since setting them we have only suffered 1 minor auto incident and an earthquake on 4/20. The Goddess gave the whole North Country a dope slap and they still are not listening...

I have cast spells for other people on request.
Recently, I cast a job interview spell for myself - let me tell you about that , it's quite funny! I was going for a job just up the road, and did a big ole spell for it. Well, I didn't end up getting the job THERE, but the manager passed my CV onto another firm, who hired me! Funny huh?! This is so "typical" of most of the spells I do! They seem to want to work their own way once they are released into the Universe.

free will is free will...I put a clause in every job spell I ever cast to cancel out if the job is wrong for me even if I want it like nobodies bussiness. other wise you can cast yourself into some awful situations!!

if you ask for your greatest good........that's what you will always get.
my favorite spell is "call in my angel" (the ones that i sell) i love the connection i feel when i speak to my angels.
prosperity is good for whenever we need some extra abundance.
but my favorite spell to do is banishing spells..........you can't get more of anything until you banish what is already filling your cup. although, i seldom do banishing spells cause my life is soooooo working for me lately :D:D:D:D:D which i absolutely LOVE!
:D

I have cast for protection and for peace when I had an intense fight with my ex hubby. I try not to cast for anything that is not a need. I don't cast for love or money etc in other words. Also, I do have spell books but I either take the basic idea and then add my own words to it or whatever.
I have a BOS (Book of Shadows) that I keep all my Wicca stuff in.

Job and Money Spell, spell for protection, these are the spells I usually use for myself. My clients often ask love spells.

I have done a couple of protection spells, but that was years ago... I don't do any formal spells anymore, as I work my maick in the mundane world... That's what I'm best at! :D I also create my own rituals, and used to create my own spells instead of take them from books, although I do get ideas from others and books...

Tarotlady: I believe in fate, I guess. I believe that if a certain love was meant to be, then it will be. Plus, I have enough love in my life...I was just stating that about me, personally. I personally would hate to cast anything out there to "draw" someone to me and never know if the love or relationship or whatever would've happened anyway or simply happened because of the spell...like the dilemma Sally faced in Practical Magic (the movie).
Hopeless, aren't I? LOL.

Yes, love is a need but more of a wanting love in ones life. In my experience when I try to do a love spell on me or someone else it usually backfires, the Universe telling me that it's not my place to play in the affairs of the heart.
For me, casting spells in more in the ritual of the casting. It helps me feel connected to the Universe and Goddess's that are needed for it to work!
I usually go to the beach, where I feel the most safe at sunset and light my candles while resighting my spell. I have one for example to help me let go of past experiences of attracting emotionally unavailable men and to be free to let love into my life. I need to do it again because it's my birthday this weekend and I'm going to do a banishing or letting go spell to start the new year off fresh.
There is no right or wrong way to cast a spell or create a ritual. It is something that moves you and your imagination. I'm using the books to help me get the idea of what is included in a spell and I'm working on writing my own at the same time.
Blessed BE!

Nice to see how people do spells for different reasons. I usually do protection and getting closer to my intuition and spirit guides spells.

I see what you mean. And if you put it that way, "drawing someone to you", it doesn't really sound right to use a spell to do that, so I agree with you on that.
I think I see a love spell more as helping you to open yourself up for love. A bit like when you're confident, you will attract people, which won't happen if you're not confident and drawn into yourself. So the spell would make you more confident.
Hm, is this at all clear?? ;)

Two thoughts:
About "love" spells: I think the idea is to cast a spell for the "essence" of what you want. For instance, ask for someone to come into your life who will be loving, kind, joyous -- or whatever your definition of a good mate is. About a specific person: If you love Griff in a big way, decide what you most like about Griff, then put those qualities in the spell. Many people add the proviso, "equal or better" to thier wording.
Second thought -- about protection: My husband is a travelling man, kind of. He has to go to different cities in Washington State to provide dental clinics for low income children. Whenever he leaves, I cast two protection spells, one for him and one for the car he's driving.
One night when he was late, he called me from an emergency hospital. He'd been rear-ended and his car was totaled. He wasn't feeling too good either.
Was I ticked! I yelled at the Goddess, "I thought I asked you to take care of him!"
A week later when he met the insurance guy at a garage to talk about his car, the mechanic looked over the car and just shook his head. "You mean you walked away from that? Alive?"
That evening I lighted a candle to the Goddess and apologised.

I've always been interested in candle magick, although I've never done any, so I'm itching to try some of the rituals in the Celtic Dragon book. Not sure which ones I'd try lol I've also seen books on candle magick. :)

A candle spell:
Light a red candle. Stare at the flame imagining that it is the man/woman of your dreams - s/he is dancing in the flame with her/his hands above his/her head. Do this until the point of diminishing returns. The effects will be amazing. })

when i perform a love spell i ask for sweet love to enter my life in whatever form the goddess chooses for me at this time. :D so rather than asking for a relationship, i just ask for more love and IMO, we can never have too much love in our lives!
my three year old and i perform this spell in the tub together. she loves to visualize the pink swirls of love and then we kiss and hug and have a wonderful cuddle time telling each other how much in love we are! :)
love and light,

I don’t cast often, but when I do it tends to be for things that I have need to change in my life.
Learned my lesson about love spells, which was a good lesson on how you get out what you put in.
One that sticks out in mind as a somewhat unusual one that you may enjoy is that I banished some annoying bugs from my Marching Band field back in Highschool. I had an elaborate on sight thing planned, but chickened out. No one wants to get caught breaking and entering while casting a spell. However, my revised plan worked. And what came back to me? I supposed I banished myself cuase that was my last year in band, which I now regrette.

ah that's the thing about doing a banishing spell, you need to be prepared to let go of what you have. you never know how the goddess will choose to assist you. :D

Jade,
How would I go about a banishing spell for what is blocking my progress forward in my life if I can't put my finger on it? How would I go about finding out why I'm moving backwards instead of forward? Tried the Konraad Past Life spread, but like there's a block on understanding that too. :(

Jade and Doll:
I really would like to see the answer to this question!

oh that is sooo easy. you just perform the banishing spell asking the goddess (or whoever you 'pray' to) to banish what is stopping you from moving forward in life. you don't always need to know the answers but you do need to banish the source rather than the symptoms. :D so be prepared to perhaps enter therapy, or get rid of a boyfriend/partner, or quit your job etc.
i would say something like this:
goddess,
i am performing this banishing spell tonight to ask you for your assistance. i don't know what's blocking me from moving forward in my life but i wish for you to assist me in banishing it. i am ready, willing and able to accept change, for my greatest good, in whatever fashion you see is best for me at this time.
goddess, i am not afraid of change, i welcome it. i choose to no longer live in this stagnation that i have been. instead i choose to experience life.
an it harm none, do as ye will.
so mote it be.
blessed be.
you can personalize it for yourself :D
love and light,
jade

Thank You! It's that simple??? Okay, I'll gonna go do it! I know that there are things that will need to be done. Some of us have to work harder to get the life we deserve, but the struggle makes us better and stronger in the end. Geez I sound like the bionic man  I also figured that someone else would probably have the same kind of question, that's why you didn't get a whiny PM from me. Thank you so very much Jade and my regards to Fairy who has been absent from the forum lately :D

Types of spells? HHhmmmmm
Well I suppose my spells are for any change of circumstance. They always work for me.
I don't do love or drawing closer type spells as that it interfering with someones else's will IMO.
Protection spells most certainly and blessings towards other people to bring happiness and prosperity their way (but only after I have their permission).

Man oh man, I luvvvvvvv casting spells. When I put my make-up on in the morning, I light two white candles and say a Chant. (I only use MAC make-up ) It is a chant that keeps you looking young and I get carded for ciggerettes. I use Raymond Bucklands book Chanto-matics and I SWEAR my hand to BAAL and Molech; the gods of the Ammorites who made their children pass through the fire it works. BUY it. I don't even excercise. I just chant. I look great and if I need money, more money to go shopping with, everything s in that book. It is so simple. No casting boring circles, and who has time for the Lesser Banishing ritual of the pentagram etc.......................................
Everything is in that book. I started using the book Chanto-matics in 97 until this very day. Raymond buckland has chants in that book to reverse peoples decisions, break up couples, heal marriages, chants for jobs, chants for you not to lose your job, chants for better jobs, man., EVERYTHING!

just remember, everything comes back to you three times fold.
(everyone, - that means that when you put out positive, you get it back bigger. when you put out negative, you get that back bigger too)
actually, you say that you are not a satanist, but it is my understanding that what you are saying you do everyday is just what they believe and do. they feel that everything is theirs for the taking, no exchange, no protection (cause what do they have to protect themselves from?) they have no problem taking from others to increase their lives in whatever they see fit........that's negativity at it's finest.
in light,
wrapping protection around everyone that this forum touches,

hmmmmmm,
Okay, there is a misunderstanding. Keep your little silver moonbeams for real issues babe. I said, I have the book chanto-matics. It has a lot of stuff in there. I use it if I need money to go shopping, and to maintain my major good looks sweetpea.
The other chants I named are also in the book. Chants concerning investments and hobbies and whatever you feel important. Thats all little momma. There is no need for Morrigan here or whatever you feel works for you . Just relax and be easy.

Isn't MAC an overpriced brand name now produced by Estee Lauder?
How old are you Meatbox? As you become more experienced in the craft (if you so desire) you will learn that it is not a toy and definetly not something that should be played with in the manner in which you do.
I wish you well, but remember the karmic action.

oh no, Macs actually fantastic! I use it too.
And despite what they tell you it lasts forever, and mines well abused and still works perfectly. I always had trouble with the base color the foundation used, they were all pinks and stuff and that won't work for me.
With Mac I had it first try. :D

I used witchcraft for 11 years. I am so freaking happy that the store owners still ask for my ID when I buy ciggerettes. I will not say how old I am but I teach High School Biology /Earth/ Space Science.

I have known Jade for more than a year now, and if there's one thing I know about her, its that she cares deeply for people. She knows the possibilities that can arise fom magick and its use, and in her post she was not being nasty, nor was there a misunderstanding. She was warning, and I am thankful that there are people on Aecectic who have the guts and the love to do that for other members. Jade's 'little silver moonbeams' are a wonderful part of Aeclectic, and those moonbeams have helped many people out many many times. 'Real Issues' are being discussed in this thread. There are many people here that would agree that magick is not something you use whilly-nilly, nor is it something you do constantly... There are dangers in that, whether you believe it or not.
If you have a problem with what another member says to you in a thread, please refrain from ridiculing them.
Kiama, co-mod of Spirituality and good friend of Jade.

I don't know if what I do are spells. But I'm always lighting candles and praying to the Universe. I mostly ask for thanks for what I have already been given, protection, and help contacting my guides and furthering my natural abilities. I think these are your best ways to get what you want out of life. Foresight is a great gift.

Merry Meet,
I cast spells but only when I feel that it is really needed. Spellcasting is not something I do frequently.
I create my own spells.
I actually finally purchased my first "spellbook" last week, just out of curiosity. It was nice to read, but I'll still create my own.
I do energy work more frequently than spellwork. My spellwork is what I consider my "big guns"...for lack of a better term.
Bright Blessings,
Momof6
