i had a friend once that practiced mariel. at that time i'd never heard of reiki. she'd draw an invisible pattern on top of my head then i could feel the energy come thru me. i'm really interesting in checking out those links you posted, holmes. i reached a point w/ this person that i felt like the mariel she wanted to practice wasn't altogether good. often she would send the energy out towards me and i could feel it. as our friendship deteriorated, the mariel felt more and more intrusive. i asked her to stop using it on me. she told me that it was impossible for mariel to be negative so there had to be something wrong w/ me. she made me so furious! maybe the mariel energy itself is okay but perhaps the practictioner's personal negative energy contaminates the force somehow. i'll try to let you know what i think after i read those sites. thanks for posting this. i've wondered about mariel for years b/c of my experience but this is the first time in 15 years i've seen someone else know of it.

interesting links. so mary-El is an off-shoot of reiki due to some controversy in the reiki community. it seems mary-El is no longer being taught. i last heard of it being taught at the edgar cayce center(ARE) in virginia beach, va. in the mid eighties. the name ethel lombardy really strikes a bell w/ me so i think she must have taught the class. one article said that the symbols weren't secret but i was told that they were. also interesting that the meaning of neg and pos reiki wasn't what i assumed it meant. it actually refers to the direction that reiki goes into the body. neg reiki goes down and pos goes up. i got the feeling that this had something to do w/ the reason for doing a reiki exorcism. never heard of it. some of those fees reiki maSters were charging for services or being taught were amazingly high. i don't know what the going rate is now but now i want to find out!

Truthsayer..So you do or don't like reiki because of your bad experience..? I can see why you wouldnt..i have not read the articles yet..From what happens with everything in life.i think anything can be turned into negative depending on the user..

i don't have a problem w/ reiki or mari'El due to my experience. in fact, i would like to learn how to do it. it's kind of like saying b/c i got bit by a dog, all dogs are bad. when in truth, just that one dog is bad. my problem was the person not reiki itself. i believe the intent of reiki is good. however like w/ anything, it's uses can be abused when in the hands of the wrong ppl. there was a time that i blithely (and blindly) trusted whoever hung a shingle from his/her door. not a good policy as i eventually learned.

i know ppl say don't shoot the messenger but sometimes the problem is not the message but the messenger. i'm really glad that you are enjoying your status at reiki 1. i have another friend who had reiki 1 a few monthes back and hopes to take reiki 2 soon. considering she is a practicing shaman, i think it's a good combination.

yeah I am working on shamanism myself...I say if you like it and something you will do and feel good about..go for it...
