totem animal help

I've read a little about this on the internet and about different kinds of animals - power, totem, messenger etc. But so far I haven't found any satisfyingly in depth sources. Most sites concentrate about finding totems or researching about them, but I'd like to know more about the sort of lessons involved. Despite living out in the city, I've always had animal beings (not city ones though :P) in my life, and I've become quite curious in this topic as of late. Any book suggestions from you knowledgable bunch would be greatly appreciated!

i think the animal wise tarot and the animal wise book by ted andrews is an excellent set to check out. i like the medicine cards by jamie sams. have you ever read "the way of the shaman" by michael harner or any of lynn v. andrew's books? you should check these out. i have some links on totem animals bookmarked but i don't have time to hunt for them right now. i'll try to remember to check for you later.

In addition to Animal Wise, published by Dragonhawk Publishing, There's a companion volume, Animal-Speak, also by Ted Andrews, but published by Llewellyn. Both are excellent sources of information on totems in general.

There is an AnimalSpirit forum on delphiforums.com You can check things out as a guest but must be a member to post (it's free like this one is). There is an exercise/lesson that can help you learn one way to get started with what your animals spirits want you to know. I have yet to by any shamanistic books, but looking through them, and listening to other people...the one reccommended (Animal Wise) is a good resource. Good luck ~Christina

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I hope my library carries those books; will check it out this weekend... Hm. I never really questioned what the animals were doing by coming to me, when I was younger I just figured everyone else experienced the same thing even though nobody talked about it. Of course when I got older, it became obvious that other ppl didn't really have this kind of relationship w/animals. So I find it interesting that there *are* ppl who have this connection w/animals. I've always had a pretty good idea about what the animals were doing in my life although I'm sure there is much more to learn. I'm more curious about what animal totems have taught other ppl...
