The paranormal site that was posted in the Divination section made me want to post this question? Anybody have any eye-witness reports of paranormal activity?
Here's my freaky "ghost story": At my college, I always felt weird in the band hall. It was always really cold. I would frequently get chills. Not the "hey, i'm cold chills" the"hair raising on the back of your neck tingly chill" One day during rehearsal, our director was telling us a story of the history behind a peice we were playing. the song "Kaddish" (a jewish funeral song) was written by Frances McBeth in honor of the death of one of his best friends. (His friend was a fellow composer who died of an accidental electrocution in his own backyard) The song was written for our University Band and it's first performance was in the band hall. Everytime we would play that song...I would get so creeped out. Psychological? maybe. I just know that I've seen several pictures of people standing outside the buildign witht these tiny little orbs floating all around.
I also have some weird pictures from the Oklahoma City Memorial. Basically orbs and stuff like that.

I carried a photographic image of Christ in my Bible until I found out that it was part of a big hoax.
I discovered that the image was widely distributed, and that, although my copy was on photo stock, it was, nevertheless, a copy.
I'm not sure if this is the same image, but it is at least close:

An old employer had his office in an old historic building in San Diego. It was built by an old sea captain, and later occupied by one of San Diego's more flambouyant mayors.
The three story house has a crow's nest built onto the top floor. To get to the very crow's nest, you need to ascend a very narrow spiral staircase.
Once in the crow's nest, you get a feeling of discomfort, not unlike vertigo.
Heebie jeebies and a sense of weirdness caused me to bug out. Haven't been up there since.

This is certainly an interesting topic for me.
There's especially one time I remember that really really freaked me out. I was lying in bed and had problems falling asleep, which is normally not difficult at all. My boyfriend was sleeping next to me. Even though I was incredibly tired, and was almost sleeping, something kept me awake. Two times I almost journeyed into dream-land, but was awakened by some sort of a voice. The voice I could barely hear and had a 'metallic' sound to it and sounded as from very far away. I know I didn't dream this.
Of course, I got a bit nervous, this was rather creepy. However, I determined that I was just jumpy and 'making it up' somehow. The third time I also almost felt asleep, and this time I 'let' the voice close in on me, because I felt foolish. Trying to suppress the fear. This voice came so close and was so loud in the end that I almost jumped out of bed. Then I turned to my boyfriend and stared at him for five minutes, suspecting him for making the noise. I had to wake him to ask. He wondered if I'd seen a ghost since I was so pale.
This was a very disturbing experience, and I wonder what, or if, would have happened if I let the 'voice' come, if you know what I mean. Hm. Never experienced it since that time anyhow.
Have any others had similar experiences?

ya know, I wanna change this:
Over the summer, one day I was feeling particularly connected to my grandmother's spirit, and aksed her if she would visit me in my sleep. For the last 5 years, I have had one of her bead necklaces around my bedpost (there's another story alltogether, maybe later:)). That night, while I was sleeping, something knocked against the wall behind my head. Well, the only thing near my head was the necklace (and I doubt a pillow made that much noise......)Also, my mom was working that night, so she wasn't in the next room. Of course I was totally freaked out and scared, and didn't remember what it was for (it was like 2 in the morning, I think around the time she died), and I forgot to say thanks for the visit.....

Kinda random, but....
My husband told me last week that during one night he awoke in a panic and turned to see a "shadow person" over me, who was sucking at my lungs. He was so freaked out about it, he said, he reached over to be sure I was breathing. Since I was, he figured it was a trick of the eyes at night and went back to bed.
This spooked me big time when he told me because for days I have been rubbing a spot right at the center of my chest, the sternum, because it was sooooo sore. it felt like it had been punched. But I hadn't mentioned it speciically to him, and just figured it was an ache that would go away.
I've started picturing myself wearing a layer of "spiritual Mithras" (i think that's the right name for the Tolkien Elvish lightweight armor, like fabric feathlight chainmail) and dispersing the energy clot. The ache has gone away.
Weird, especially to me since my husband is the prgamatic of the 2 of us :smoker:

I just remembered the only three instances of paraphenomenon (outside of magickal effects) that I have personally experienced. All three situations seem to share a common theme:
1. When I was a high school sophomore, I removed my class ring to perform a dissection in biology. I forgot to put it back on. I lost it at school, and never recovered it before my family moved. Sometime after the move, I was practicing putting in the basement and a golf ball rolled under a shelving unit. When I crouched down and looked under the bottom shelf, there was my ring.
2. I possess a family Bible that contains photos of historical locations (Dead Sea Scrolls caves, Garden of Gethsemane, etc.). When my younger brother was just a toddler he scribbled all over some of the photos. I was so disappointed about one of my prized posessions being "tainted" that I didn't open the book for years. Later, I thumbed through the Bible and all the grafitti was gone.
3. An important file folder was missing. After searching for a couple of days, I gave up looking. That night, I dreamed that it was trapped under the bottom drawer of my night stand. The next morning I checked, and there it was.

Hi destinyawaitsme,
Once I was looking for silk scarves at a flea market and I saw a New Age business sign from and by the time I got to the business, the sign was no longer the same, in fact the business has absolutely nothing to do with New Age.
I've lost objects while travelling and months or years later, these objects would reappear in my house.
I've heard voices from a different realm around 2:30 to 3:30 am, when I am awakened by the voices, I felt a presence around me.
I've heard my dead dog bark on three different occasions around 3:30am. The last time I was awakened by my living dog who was howling the creepiest sounds, then I heard the dead dog barking from a far distance. I got up, checked on my living dog and went back to bed, my eyes now wide open; I heard my living dog howl that creepy sound once more and stopped. Then my dead dark barked once real loud right above me like his face was infront of mine and then a minute later I heard my living dog shriek like he got hurt or frightened. I jumped out of bed to check on him and he was now away from his bed, licking his rear end and then slept on the opposite side of the room, wouldn't return to his sleeping quarters. Seems the dead dog can still boss around my living dog..hahaha.
I've heard the telephone ring and when I pick it up, there's nothing and nothing registered on the caller id either, like there was no incoming call. A psychic told me last week that it was my grandmother who died in January calling me on the telephone.

Freaked me out too~!
I don't really understand the whole "Shadow People" concept, quite frankly. I think it may be a less corporeal/more astral form of a "psychic vampire," or pyschic parasite perhaps, for lack of any better term.
Jason only knew about them because he heard one of Art Bell's paramnormal radio prgrams that was dedicated to shadow people. There are some nasty spooky pics of shadow people at
http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/Shadow_Person.html that was linked through Bell's website : www.artbell.com Go to the Gallery, and it will pop up a menu with Shadow People listed for some cheesier stuff on Shadow People.
Here was the conversation when Jason told me about the thing:
Him : Oh my god, I forgot to tell you! Last night I saw a shadow person over you.
Me : A what? No way...
Him : I swear to god, I did. It freaked me out so much, I reached out to see if you were breathing.
long pause ...
Me : Did you get any sensation what it was there for, what it wanted? Was it benevolent, malevolent ...?
Him : Oh definitely malevolent. He was attached to your chest and hovering over you.
Me : He? You felt like it was male?
Him : Definitely.... I don't know why. I thought it was a trick of the light at night though and went back to sleep when I saw you were ok.
Me : You saw a black being over me, and knew at a glimpse in the night that it was male, and knew it wanted to hurt me. I don't think it was just a trick of the light .......
Longer pauses occurred as I had to really take it in.
It spooked me, and I immediately started doing protection/visualization and prayers. I feel better, but it's sore a little today and I'm cathcing my son's chest cold, so now I'm a bit weak, and at my own achilles' heel no less.
Just bizarre since nothing like that has ever happened before.

This is an interesting subject.
Alissa, your story is freaky! I had never even heard of shadow people until now.
I've had a few experiences, though I'm not sure if they really deal with the paranormal.
One thing that happens a lot is that I see things from the corners of my eyes(like figures and such), but when I quickly turn my head to see, there's nothing. It's really weird because I can easily spot insects from the corners of my eyes, I can sense their movement, but I can't seem to be able to see these weird figures.
Also, at night, as I'm about to sleep, I sometimes hear someone saying my name out loud, even though everyone else is asleep.

I have many 'ghost' stories but here's the most recient.
I was waitressing a few years ago. We had a reach in cooler with gallon bottles of syrup stored on top. One of the bottles (unopend; so that's about 8lbs) 'fell' from the top of the cooler. I saw it from the corner of my eye and thought it to be very odd.
I had a couple sitting in the booth that had a pretty good view of the kitchen area. When I came out he asked me if this place was haunted. I asked 'did you see that?'. He said he watched it slide right off the top of the cooler.
I had to know if what I believed was true. When I cleaned up the mess, I looked up on top of the cooler and you could see a faint ring from where the bottle was, 3-4 inches from the edge. My boss later confirmed that there was a ghost, and that he had made his presence known to her one day while repairing the tile floor. She told him she was not in any mood for funny stuff and to leave her alone. He did.
Alissa, what a wild story. I would be pretty freaked out by something like that. Have you done a tarot reading about it, like where it's coming from? Good going on the protection projection!

Nohting like a good spooky tale to get you jumping, huh Sprite? Zane seems much better today. I am still mucking through it, but it's not that bad really.
And, what an amazing tale lunalafey ... makes you wonder eh?? For myself, I haven't done a reading regarding it. I just am treating it very casually actually. A reading might be interesting, but right now I'm too tired to do much reading.

I searched the internet for more info about shadow people. From what I read, many people seem to think of them as being evil and wanting to do harm.
However, I personally do not think they are evil. It seems as though we humans misunderstand them. Has anyone seen "The Others"? This movie really made me think. I think that the SP get scared when we spot them, that's why they run away. I think that they are just curious about us and don't mean any harm.
I mean, when you think about it, the SP probably don't know who/what we humans are either, and I wonder what they think when they see us.
Why do we usually think of ghosts, aliens... as being evil? Maybe they are just trying to communicate with us the only way they know how and we totally misunderstand their intentions.
Well, that's my opinion for now.

It's our human nature to be afraid of what we don't know or understand. And then when we're not afraid we tend to be upset when another creature (like a squirrel) becomes afraid and runs away. We know that in the human race there are nice people and there are people who wish to do us harm.
The truly scary part is that most of the time we may not know the difference between the two. If you look at a lot of the known crimanials at least one or two out of 10 males are really good looking guys. Guys that some might want to make a husband, but obviously those guys had something different in mind.
We know this of our own intelligent race so why not have the same menolevent (sp) type in other intellegent things such as shadow people, or aliens. That's what's scary, the combination of what we know and what we don't.

When I moved into this house the first time, after a while of being here I had gotten upset about something. I had laid down on my bed and wept, really sobbing. I heard someone say something to me and turned to my left, there was a woman with dark hair pulled up in a bun, wearing a long dress and an apron.
She said to me, "It'll be alright, it'll all be alright." and then she was gone.
About 3 weeks ago my land lady came and we were talking, I told her about this and discribed the woman, she says, "That was my Mother."
I had a feeling that it was.
I have seen shadow people from time to time. Sometimes out of the corner of my eye and some times it seems as if they are going across the hall. Just walking. And you know theres no one in the house but you...

Over the past 20 years I've lived in mostly new-ish houses (most of what we've got here in San Diego). I haven't seen any shadows or spirits of people but I have to say I've seen or heard "spirits" or shadows of my departed pets. This topic has come up recently on another forum I'm on and it's not uncommon among pet owners. We all agree that it's a nice thing. Kind of like the departed pet is helping us with our grief and also helping us remember.
I've got a vague memory of seeing a "ghost" when I was very young but now I honestly don't remember if I really saw him or if it was a dream. Memory is so plastic.

This topic is quite interesting to me.
All this discussion of shadow people makes me wish to go to the links, but the way everyone reacts to the photos...Mmm, just not to sure I wish to go right now. :)
I've had quite a bit happen of a paranormal nature of late, but will share two experiences I had as a child.
I have a sister who's Dad died and he never met her. His parents, her grandparents sent her a koala bear that had been his. While in the process of moving, my Mom put it somewhere special, separate from the other items we were moving.
When it came time to go, it was nowhere to be found. Our Mother began asking what he'd done to it and we of course had no idea of it being moved. We were standing in front of her, being lectured and she stomped her foot and said "I want that bear and I want it NOW!", she was very angry. All the sudden out of the corner of my eye, I saw it falling from the ceiling, and it rolled right to my Mom's feet. Needless to say, we left rather quickly.
Another incident that happened at this house occured the same year.
We had one fan, and so when we'd fall asleep, our Mom would come get it and take it to their room. Well, one night I woke to find it gone and went into my Mom and Dad's room. My Mom had done laundry that day and we had no dryer, so she would hang things on the line, and if out of room, on hangers inside the house. Well, she'd put a skirt on her door knob to dry, but when I went to get the fan, it was circling over their bed, like blades of a ceiling fan do today. I was so scared (I was between 8 and 10 at the time) and unsure what would happen if I spoke, fleed the room and left the fan, huddled under my covers. The next morning I woke, and crept into their room, and the skirt was laying by their bed. I'll never forget either of these events as long as I live.

I am VERY familiar with a few different types of shadow people.
1. Shadow dancers
2. Shadow dwellers
3. Shadow guardians
Just like we have tons of different races here on earth of the human kind, and really, all animal kind, there are many more then just those three of types of shadow people. Those are just the three that I am most familiar with.
Shadow people to a large degree is like faery's. Mostly they just like playing around. Because their dark (and we associate dark with creepiness) they tend to feel and look threatening.
Shadow dancers like to play in flickering lights. The shadows thrown on the ground or a wall in a house from a fire or a candle. They like to flicker and manifest as the smoke rising only to disappear and come back to the dance. Although they prefer flames, they also enjoy just a flickering light.
Shadow dwellers usually just like to hang out and watch. They LOVE to people watch. Sometimes, I've caught them taking notes on me, wondering what they would be writing about and why. I just smile and shake my head, and act like I don't notice them. Shadow dwellers HATE to be noticed or seen. They will either FREEZE if they think you see them, or RUN as fast as they can, thus you'll see a glimpse of a shadow run across your wall. Was that really just a car that went by? How about that "cloud" outside, is there really a cloud, or does your house shadows just want to get closer to you? Often they just enjoy hangin out. They like to be ignored, and they are of no threat.
Shadow protectors are very interesting. I once wrote a poem (one of the best I'd ever written) about shadow protectors. These shadow people are like our guides, or dark angels. Not dark as in evil, but dark only in that they are shadows. Look at your shadow on the wall? Is it really just a trick of the light? Or is there something that you feel dwells inside the darkness? Something that's familiar and comforting, something that you haven't thought about since you where a child and was afraid of shadows, or afraid of the dark. In any case, your shadow guide is there to help protect, guide, and comfort you. Although he/she loves to go out and play when all the lights are out. Those things that go bump in the night? Just might be your house shadows playing around, causing mischief. They can be just as fun and mischievious as faery's. There are bad shadow people to, but not all shadow people are bad.

This has ALWAYS been one of my terrors. One of the worst things that I fear. Looking into a mirror with the lights off. I can't! I've seen TOO many things in mirrors! There is NO question in my mind what so ever that mirrors provide a direct gate to other realms. And from what I've seen in those realms, I really don't want to see any more or be apart of it.
Shudders!
I won't allow a mirror in my room at all, or in my child's room either. There's only one mirror that I've ever come across that I wasn't scared of, and even still, it's hanging in the bathroom.

Alissa: It's "mithril".
On our way back to my house after a party ended at 3 am, my friend and I took a wrong turn, and got lost - we ended up next to an abandoned construction site. It was incredibly windy. Suddenly, as we turned the corner, under a streetlight was a girl wearing a dress, with her back to us - she was very fair, with long, long black hair. We never got to see her face. She just stood still under the street light, not moving at ALL. At first, we wanted to stop and ask her if she needed help, but then we thought twice and were like: okaaay, what's a girl doing standing around at an abandoned construction site at 3 am? We decided to err on the side of caution.
Apparently the 'girl' had been seen going into that site many times but never coming out, and she has no face.
-------------------------------
Another time, another friend was riding his bike on a dirt road; forest on both sides. He heard a baby crying. Concerned, he stopped and looked around (in practically pitch darkness), and suddenly he got the feeling that he should get the heck out of there right NOW - and he did. Later he found out that villagers around the area believed 'something' inhabited the area around which he had been travelling.
What was the baby's cry for, you ask?
Bait.

Demonesse, those stories were freaky!
About 12 or so years ago (BM & C.. before marriage and children)
I lived with a couple of work associates and friends in a small mining country town. It was the oldest house ever, it has tree trunks for support beams and a pot belly stove for cooking and and out house.
There was one room which we turned into a dining/bar room, and it was used ALOT! we would always play cards, drink and smoke the funny stuff in there, almost every weekend (remembering this was about 12 or so years ago) and it was the COLDEST room in the house...and I mean COLD, we had steam coming out of our mouths when we spoke, even in the summer months, it was strange.
We would all be sitting in the lounge room and focusing on the TV programme, when we would see someone/something walk past the doorway of that room. We all looked at each other..."what was that" WHO was that!. This happened all the time and we would hear footsteps during the day as well as the night in the house, but we all got used to it and we lived with it..(mind you, I lived with the most sceptical people I have ever met)
We had a Clairvoyant/Medium friend of mine come and check things out once, and as soon as she came in she saw an old man standing in the doorway of that COLD room. She said that he was "cranky" looking, but harmless, and he just kept walking around in that room for the whole time she was there. (my housemates, of course, laughed at her). It wasn't until I went to the local library, and found the occupants of that house from years ago had lived there for 46 years, and the man of the house had a workshop (dining/bar room to us) and spent his days since his wife had died, in his workshop, which they say he loved and died in..
He wasn't too keen on us "invading" his space I guess, but I was sort of sad for him as to me he seemed a' lost soul'.
After we all left the house, the next occupants had heaps of kids and one of them decided to light up his mothers clothes in the wardrobe with matches, which lead to the house burning down in flames......I felt aweful for that "old man ghost".
I will never forget my time in that house.
Cheers
Kazz

My grandmother's house is haunted. I've been seeing it since I was 12. Actually 12-18 I saw it quite a bit. I haven't seen it since but when I visit I can tell when its there because the hair stands on the back of my neck or I'm constantly looking over my shoulder to see who's behind me.
At first we thought it was only present in the basement because it likes to swing the door back and forth between the garage and laundry room, until it started turning the TV on and off upstairs and traveling down the hallway. You only catch brief glimpses of it and I say its a woman but my Grandmother has named it George...LOL...my grandmother is sick and has been for years, it seems to be most active when she is feeling her worst and then settles down when she is better. I'm not sure why that is. Its never done anything harmful, when it makes noises or appears its like it just wants you to know its there.
My grandparents have been the only owners to this house since they built it in 1970, so I'm guessing its something that was already there on the land. Its funny though because my grandfather says we're crazy and there has never been anything in that house, so he has never heard it or seen it but I think thats just cause he's in denial.

Personally I have had only one experience, but my youngest son and two of his children frequently encounter ghosts in my house.
When my son was a teen, he decided he wanted to use a finished room in the basement for his bedroom. He frequently heard heavy foot steps clumping down the stairs. When he'd check them out, the stairs were empty. Since he told us about it only recently, I'm not sure how frequent they were, but he said they went only down, never up.
His oldest daughter, 14 at the time, frequently saw a girl in her early teens dressed in tennis whites and holding a racquet, standing in the doorway between the kitchen and dining room. She heard noises, and saw apparitions in just about every room in the house. There was one on the stairs which she felt was so malevolent that she would only sleep in the living room on the couch when she came here. In fact, she finally refused to come here anymore. Now she's 25, and was here for Christmas. She told me she now sees only one ghost, a little man in work clothes standing at the top of the stairs.
She tried to tell herself that she was imagining things, until recently her little brother, now 14, asked her if she ever saw that man.
My own story is pretty tame. I'd lived with my grandparents on an isolated farm in Northern Washington State from the time I was four or five until I was 10. My grandfather was my special buddy. The year after I was returned to my birth family (about 500 miles away), I was sitting in arithmetic class one morning writing an exercise. It was just before morning recess. I heard my grandfather calling me. I looked up and he was standing in the doorway. I started to get up to go to him, but the recess bell rang and he disappeared.
That afternoon we learned that he had died at 10 o'clock that morning.

this seems pretty stupid in comparison, but anyway.
Last night (about 11:30 EST) I was going to bed, and I felt this weird prescence in my room. In my peripheral vision I could see a little black cloud (no, not a fly) in my window, where there's nothing on the other side of that window. I'm not normally scared of the dark, but a few minutes before, I heard something clanging around me in the family room, and later, something clanging around in my bedroom...
