Seeking Rituals to Bring In the New Year

I am very superstitious regarding New Year's Eve, I believe how one spends that evening and day are indicative of the coming year. For example, I feel that if one goes out and gets drunk on that evening, that one will spend the year in reckless and irresponisble behavior and pursuits. With that said, I am looking for some ideas or rituals to perform on New Year's Eve and Day, things that will bring in goodness into my year. Any ideas anyone?

Sorry...I don't have any rituals to suggest, but have you ever thought of not paying attention to the New Year, and aligning with more natural cycles? Some consider Samhain the beginning of the year, and others, the Spring. I read that the League of Nations proclaimed in 1930 that as of 1 Jan 1931 the world would use a different calendar system but the Vatican placed so much pressure on this resolution, it was finally aborted. I think it was going to be a 13 moon/28 day affair. Isn't it an odd time to switch years, 1 January I mean?

How about something to do with giving thanks for the past year's experiences- even the bad ones- summarising, making sure everything is completed from that year, and welcoming in the new year with smiles, optimism, and a few good intentions? I don't have any speciifc rituals, but the above is more of a general thing.... Hope it helps anyway! Kiama
