Hi all,
Here is the deal. A friends boyfriend is buying soil from a local graveyard (it is in expensive)..
NOW..she and I are a little upset. SO WHAT WE DECIDED TO DO..was to do a honor spell to honor the soil from this sacred place.
and..I was thinking of having him plant a flowering plant..something that will bloom every year..I was thinking wild roses..mum's were mentioned..were in Connecticut, USA..any suggestions..
Thank you..if this is not the place to ask..directions to an appropriate web site would help..
Blessings,
CJ

Personally I feel that every person is responsible for their own deeds, therefore I don't see that you are your friend could do anything to honor the soil that her boyfriend has chosen to buy.
I have a hard time with being able to justify the buying of graveyard dirt. I suppose if it were truly needed for a magickal deed then it would be appropriate to collect it yourself and leave an offering....but only after careful evaluation of the justifications and possible ramifications of taking it.
My best advice...Tell her to voice the concerns to the boyfriend, suggest the offerings and let him make his own decisions..be them good or bad.
Blessings,

I'm assuming the soil, if sold to the public at low cost, is from the area that's being developed & landscaped along the edges of the cemetary, not soil that comes from over graves already installed in the ground. As such, it's just soil, not yet used for the purpose of people reposing under it.
The larger cemeteries in my area move a lot of dirt around as they flatten out the hills, and though they haven't set out signs saying it's for sale, the wood and brush they cleared out of the back area IS. I don't see anything wrong with buying that, and if they did put topsoil up for sale, don't see that as compromising anything in the rest of the graveyard. Nothing is dishonored, graves weren't disturbed, nothing was disinterred (sp?).
It's just dirt. And not from anything already being used for people. So personally, I don't see any real reason for feeling as if something was dishonored. Cemeteries are very modern things.

HudsonGray,
You are right..it's not from an actual site..But Stillllll
So I think what I'll do is suggest..not tell him...that he may just want to plant a bush or flowering plant in the place where he is using the dirt.
This way, it is not a major ritual, and it would make my friend feel better too and who knows, if we can get him to plant 1 flower, we may be able to talk him into a whole garden..
Blessings,
Cj

So he is not using it for Voodoo or anything? Whew. I agree with HudsonGrey then- it's just dirt. Although I suppose it could still have graveyard vibes.
Maybe you should do a sage-smudging ceremony over it.
How would you honor any earth that's been moved? Maybe a ritual for the earth-spirit, thanking such for the use of the earth and the fact that the boyfriend moved it. I like the roses idea, that would help you remember to give thanks to the earth now and then, and **when the blooms die and the petals fall, you could gather them and take tham to the graveyard** ;)
Edited to add: please don't take offense to the Voodoo reference; I have only ever heard of using graveyard dirt for voodoo, never for wiccan or pagan spells.
