Hi all!
I was in my local new age shop and a woman was buying supplies to perform a spell on her German Shepherd, who has a penchant for messing on her dining room floor.
She uses a piece of wood to represent the floor where her dogs likes to relieve himself, a black candle to banish the bad habit, a white candle to stand for the corrupted canine (she carves his name into it) and a statue of St. Francis at the altar. She swears by it and every few months she repeats this ritual to ensure her hardwood floors are protected. She also mentioned it was very important to reward the animal with a little treat. She also mentioned (as I know is true) that creating your own recipe for this type of spell works quite well as the owner/pet relationship is so personal.
Have any of you performed such a ritual? Is it interferring with your pet's free will (although their bad habit wreaks havoc on your home)? Does a remedy such as this state that animals are inferior to humans and we have the right to control them? For example, if I could see the benefits of my mother quitting smoking however I wouldn't work a spell to get her to stop. Although she would need encouragement, the decision would be hers. Or at the very least, I would tell her that I was doing a spell in her favor to help her along. It this is true, then could I say to Jeremy (my cat) "I'd really like you to stop spraying here and there and I'm going to do something to make it a bit easier"?
What are the ethics involved in spell-casting for animals? If it is okay, then do any of you have any ideas?

if an animal is dependant upon you, then i think it would fall under the same catagory as one's children. i think it would be fine as long as the spell was for the animal's greater good. .. and you certainly have the right to protect your property.
i have never done spell work on my cats, but i have done energy healings on them. there was a former member who successfully stopped a neighbor's cat from relieving itself in her home by using a spell. (it would come in through her pet door).
as far as other animals, this probably sounds 'out there', but i think it is possible to communicate on a soul level with an animal, to ask if it would be ok to help it by using spellwork.

Zorya makes very good points.
Some people will put their animals down because they are tired of the messes.
I vote for spells if it helps!

We have a cat that was quite seriously hurt in a road accident. He had to have his tail amputated and the nerves in his lower spine were damaged, consequently he has very little control over urination and excretion. He also tends to get extremely constipated because of the lack of muscular control. On more than one occasion the vet has discussed the possibility of putting him to sleep if his condition deteriorates. However we love him so much that we would not take that step unless his life becomes unbearable to him.
My wife has not tried a spell to help but she does regularly try Reiki healing on him and it does seem to help keep him going (in both senses!).
Animals do respond to love, whether it is through a spell or through energetic healing and I think if it is given in love it is accepted by them.

This is not really a pet but...
Janine Renee has in her book Tarot Spells a spell for giving an animal a good home. That may be useful for me one day, I live in a neighbourhood full of cats, also some stray, and since I give my cats such good food ;) I always have cats "visiting". I'd like them to have a human of their own...
