confusing or convienent...YEAR CARD GRAPH

I just found out about YEAR CARDS, and I was trying to map out a graph. I'm having extream difficuly with it though. The way the graph is set up there is a place for the year and it corolates with an age. For my graph it starts 0 years, year 1967, 1 year old in 68 etc. Now here's the BIG problem, I was born on the last day of the year! and with ONLY an hour and 13 minutes left as well! The cards determined by the formula fit perfectly in some places and others would fit if they got bumped up a year, or bumped back a year. ie. 12+31+1967, breaks down to 3, Empress, pregnancy, I was inutro for the last nine months of 67.
But according to the graph, this would represent age 0 to 1 year.
If I use the formula to add my birthday GMT, I get a whole different set of year cards, again some fit. I have just started this little project, there are dates I have to remember, see how it fits with 67 or to 68? But it's sort of frustrating trying to proceed with figuring two sets of numbers as well as "shifting" a set to match the age, so I'm looking at this from 3 different angels YEEOOWW....
The convienent part is once I figure where and what, I don't have to do the overlap, birthday to birthday and numerical year intergration of the cards(from book: Tarot for Yourself)cuz it all falls on the same day(well, not actually but pretty darn close!!!)

Isn't all the Year Card/Soul Card/Shadow Card stuff wonderful? I just love figuring it all out! Of course, I was born in July, so I don't have the troubles that you do! ;)

I'm wondering...when were you DUE to be born? Were you early or late? Knowing this might help you decide if you should shift your cards up or back.

You know, it's almost like you'll always have two Year Cards at the same time. I think Mary Greer talks in one of her books about the difference between your Birthday Year and the Calendar Year, and how the card that comes up at the start of the Calendar Year refers to more external factors in your life, while that same card being in your Birthday Year (from one birthday to the next) reflects more of your internal makeup.

So in your first year, the Empress would indicate your internal focus, while the Emperor (whose year started 1 hr and 13 minutes after you were born!) would indicate the external factors in your life.

Whew! Does this make any sense? I always feel like I'm talking around in circles when I get into this stuff! :D And who knows...I may be figuring this all out wrong! Oh well...it's fun anyway!

Peace,

Melvis

Year(card) refers to more external factors in your life, .... card being in your Birthday Year (from one birthday to the next) reflects more of your internal makeup.

When I made my list, PST and GMT, the cards where very different. Glancing over the events in my life I saw that the GMT cards seemed to refer more
internal/personal issues/events and the PST refered to the things happening around me. For example, when I was 9 my parents went through a divorce, GMT year card is '8 strength' PST card is '12 Hanged Man' the year I became pregnant with my daughter was also an '8' year (GMT) she's a Leo. But that formula is not consistant because the GMT card for the year I gave birth to my son(not preg.) is '21 World' I call him turtle because of a face he would make when he was itty bitty, my Native American decks world card is of Turtle Island. So I'm still confused on how to proceed.
I read the part you mentioned about birthday and calander year, but I can't seem to find that part again.

forgot to mention, I was only about 5 days late, I was to be born right at christmas time which if it had been, I was to be named Holly. I would have liked that.

The chart is confusing, Im born December 21, that gives me a whole week where they overlap lol.

I dont figure out my year cards, maybe I should, but I find my personailty, soul, and hidden facotr cards interesting.

Wow. I've never heard of it. :( I feel so dirty. LOL. I was born July 7th. I might see what that means according to the graph. :)

In which book is this graph? It's a new one on me. Haven't heard of "Year Cards." Give us the low-down on how they work.

determining your year card. I will use both my PST and GMT to show how it works. Using only the Majors 1 thru 22, the fool takes on 22.
take the month you where born....12.....01
take the day you where born......31.....01
take the year you where born...1967...1968
add it all up................= 2010...1970
now add those numbers 2+0+1+0=3
1+9+7+0=17. If the number at this point is more than 22 ad those numbers up in the same manner.
Dothis for every year. The numbers will NOT work it's way through the whole deck. My first set goes from 3 to 12 and then starts over at 4 and goes to 13.

I think I'm kind of with Melvis here, only a bit different, doesn't Greer state that the year can run both from birthday to birthday and new-year to new-year? Well, to me that would mean in your special case both cards will sort of work together, either as internal/external focuses, or some other duality taking place in your life.

Have a look at your graphs again, and see if this approach might fit, seeing two cards instead of one ruling each year!

For the rest of us I guess the same thing apply for a part of the year, but it might not be so obvious... You've got me inspired now, I've got to take out my TFY and work some on MY graph...! I'll bring this thought into it and see if it works for me...!

the method of finding year cards etc. is also in the book 'the tarot handbook' (sub-title: practical applications of ancient visual symbols) by angeles arrien. the book itself is an excellent analysis of the thoth deck (although the insights she presents apply to ANY deck), clearest i've ever seen, and very deep.

the section on what she calls 'your tarot profile' runs about 30 pages, and is very easy to follow. all the grids are in the book for you to fill out (with a 'permission to photocopy granted' notice on the bottom of the page :) ) one important point she makes: a year runs from birthday to birthday, NOT calendar year.

when you've gone through the calculation, you have a chart of your growth pattern from year 0 to 100 (kind of optimistic, isn't it?
:) ). for each year, the pattern includes your personality choice and its path, and your spirit choice and its path. everything is very well explained, and the resulting chart is easy to understand, and your overall pattern simple to follow. the text on the major arcana itself also amplifies the meanings/uses of this chart.

i highly recommend this book for those who wish to study themselves as an extension of tarot.
