cards not in a spread

I put my cards in their spaces in large spreads e.g. wands with wands, cups with cups etc. to see what is missing because I think this is important to note in large spreads. e.g.So if no cups show up I think the question is effecting the client emotionally.
"Do you think in small spreads say 10 -15 cards this works as well ? "
(the cards that are not shown in small spreads has an underlying meaning to the question the client is asking also?)
I use this for 15 + cards but not for less.

Yep. Especially if a suit is obviously missing. I personally -try- to pay attention to how many of what suit/how many majors are in any spread with over 5 cards, but that's just me. :)
