Interpreting the Numbered Minors in Non-Illustrated Pip Decks

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 13 Dec 2003, and now archived in the Forum Library.

There have been some very interesting discussions about reading with non-illustrated-pip decks (such as the Marseilles, the Ancient Italian, Tarot Classic, Prediction Tarot, Ancient Tarot of Lombardy, Art of Tarot, and many, many others) in the History and Iconography forum.

I've recently spent some time and created a list of short definitions for all the pip cards which combine a suit-plus-number approach with elements from the RWS deck, the goal being to be able to read with non-illustrated pip decks as well as RWS type decks while maintaining a continuity of meaning between them. The numbers are correlated with correspondingly-numbered Major Arcana cards.

I'm posting a link to that list here, for the benefit of those members who may not regularly visit the History and Iconography forum. To see the list, click on this link, which goes to page 3 of a History and Iconography thread, and scroll down a bit:

Of course, you may want to simply read the entire thread:

Here's an excellent thread on the same topic, started by Rusty Neon:

The History and Iconography forum is itself a fascinating place to spend a few hours, and I heartily recommend a visit:

Thank you, Lee. I love this kind of help. I'm not real detail oriented so when I do a search, I still end up missing great threads.

Hi Lee

Forgot to say thanks for this in the last thread. I'm soaking up everything I'm told re this subject at the moment. It must have taken you ages!

Thanks Lee!!
Im reading your list fast now. Will take a more in depth look later.

The History and Iconography forum is one of those i visit only from time to time. Not because its not interesting but because of time. The posts there are depth and dense in content usually... so it makes them hard to read for me.
