I think... :)
Yesterday and the day before I drew the Ace of Wands. Granted, my shuffling was atrocious (new super-large Druidcraft cards!) but still, drawing the same Ace two days in a row makes you pay attention. And that's when I actually understood...
The first day I got the Ace I thought it meant I would have a great idea, or a great opportunity would come my way. And yes, it does mean that, in a sense – but it’s meaning in a reading isn’t actually as passive as that. I think that, when you draw an Ace, what it’s actually saying is…PAY ATTENTION. Not just that an idea or opportunity is going to present itself – because ideas and opportunities often present themselves – but that you need to pay particular attention to what’s coming up or you might miss it or worse, dismiss it, and this could be the start of something big. So an Ace says, pay attention. Notice the signs. Write things down before you forget them. There’s gold in them there hills. If someone offers you something, seriously consider it rather than saying no thanks straight away. It may mean considering things it is in our nature to usually dismiss, whether that's ideas (I don't write that kind of stuff) or opportunities (I don't really dance) etc.
Whaddya think?

Dear Pip,
Excellent interpretation! Paying attention is an active process.

The other day I had a decision to make and so my mind
was set on that even while I tried to consult the cards,
you know... I was trying to be neutral minded and open.
Two cards came together, The Queen and Ace of Wands.
It was as if she had a light bulb flashing above her head.
I almost couldn't believe it ~ what a clear signal to think!

I was playing with my Secret tarot deck Thursday evening. I pulled just one card and it was the Ace of Pentacles. For some reason it struck me very sharply. So, I shrugged, inter-laced shuffled the cards thoroughly and laid out 3 for the next day. Two were the Ace of Cups and the Ace of Pentacles.
Friday afternoon after work I stopped by where they they were doing my income taxes and I had a very substantial rebate! (not expected, but that is why I get someone else to do my taxes). So, Friday evening I was shuffling and shuffling the Secret Tarot, and drew one card, the Ace of Pentacles! I read here about cards spookily reappearing several times in a row after careful shuffling, but it has never happened to me before. I will have to check my lottery tickets this morning. :) Also, I plan to keep my eyes open for opportunities to start something that has a strong basis in substantial reality (i.e. not an idea, or a love, or an new enterprise)

I think it's inspired! I will start to pay attention when I receive those aces:D

yep, the Aces are opportunities. The hand comes out of the clouds and offers you the quality of that particular suit but it's up to you to notice and take what's being offered.
I work a lot with elements and so think of the aces like this:
Wands / Fire - the opportunity for transformation.
Swords / Air - the opportunity for inspiration.
Cups / Water - An emotional opportunity
Pentacles / Earth - An opportunity to make something real, to manifest, an opportunity on the physical plane.

I had been getting the Aces of Swords lately and I think 'pay attention' is a really great way to view them!
Whilst previously tying myself up in knots mulling over plan A or plan B, all of a sudden plan C popped into my head from nowhere. And now I can't believe I didn't think of it before! Doh!
Ooh Sulis just saw your post, Ace of Swords opportunity for inspiration, well it was for me! :)

I love it when Aces appear in my readings. Sometimes I dont see them for months and Months, so when they arrive I get quite a 'good' - 'something to look forward to' feeling inside - yes even the Ace of Swords!
Because I feel that for a moment in time life stands still and taps me on the shoulder to say "EHm excuse me - can I interest you in this". I feel like its mine to take if I so choose, and if not it will go somewhere or to someone else to see if they're interested, but I have that special kind of one off choice or opportunity. Something new!
I like the Aces!!
Blessings

Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm glad I'm not totally off the mark - the Aces have been bewildering me for ages. I knew what they meant, I just didn't know what they meant in a reading... :)
I work a lot with elements and so think of the aces like this:
Wands / Fire - the opportunity for transformation.
I never thought of fire that way Sulis, but yes, it makes sense, fire transforms...which makes me think, as an element, is fire the only one which can't actually exist on its own? (Except for the sun of course). Because fire always needs to burn something, and without air/oxygen, it can't burn. Is this significant at all??
Because I feel that for a moment in time life stands still and taps me on the shoulder to say "EHm excuse me - can I interest you in this".
LOL!

pip-- i think your last question about fire is really neat. my impulse is to say that all the elements need the others to survive-- though perhaps it's more evident with fire because it's hungrier than the others, consumes so much more quickly. but air (at least oxygenated air) needs the plants of earth to feed it. and water needs the rain from the air to replenish itself... along with earth (meaning something solid-- even a human hand) to hold it. and then earth... well, as the slowest element it feels hardest to see... but i'd say that earth is hungry for air and water and fire too... things that bring life to what would otherwise be dead dry dirt.
so in some ways, they all need each other. transformation, inspiration, emotion, materialization... none happens by itself.
hope that sparks even more revelations!

p.s. can someone tell me how to quote another post in my post? i wanted to quote pip's last post here, but couldn't figure out how to do it in one of those neat little boxes. thanks!

Wow, David. Thanks for that reply...I'd never really thought about how the elements interacted like that, but it makes perfect sense. Just expanding on the rain thing...the earth needs the rain to nourish it, and the rain needs fire (the sun) to evaporate and recycle it.
Cool...I'm going to think about all this some more :)
