What's the best edition of the Bohemian Gothic Tarot and why?

Miss Divine

I have the first and third edition and while I like some of the images better in the third, I like the colors better in the first. I prefer the backs on the third, but I am not happy with the cardstock. It's a bit too thin for my preference. Sooo... I guess I do prefer the first afterall.

Without question the Silver Edition. Beautiful beautiful deck. I love all the editions but the silver is just perfect. The images are stunning with the silver overlay and the 1st edition Lovers is my favourite version. 3rd edition would be my second favourite - Lovers card and deck! :D

Gulliver

Many thanks for your answers! :)

It's very interesting to read, I think most of you don't prefer the 2nd edition so far. It would be interesting too to hear more folks' opinions. Then it will get the character of a little poll.

Alta

I think that I like the 3rd edition best. I do have all of the editions except the mini. The Silver would be my second choice right after the 3rd.

For me personally

The first edition, then the third. I actually traded the second and another oop deck to get the first BG (thank you, Madame Squee!). And I, like Alta, would have LOVED the silver first edition, but alas, that was not to be, but I CAN judge the three regular editions as I have had them all, including the pewter second edition.

I LOVE the first because of the cardstock and the images on the cards. Great to shuffle and I think the images are just perfect. I also feel it is the most gothic-looking of the three. While the third edition is great and has more close up images, the first seems clearer in the images.

The third edition I also really love because it gives you a choice of Lovers cards (my choice is the one with the original male from the first edition) and the stock is easy for me to shuffle. It's different enough from the first (and second) editions to have made me want it and yet retains the great gothic feel.

While I loved the cardstock and many cards of the second edition, the stock was hard for me to shuffle and I just wasn't a big fan of the Lovers card in that deck. The PEWTER was beautiful, although just as hard for me to shuffle as the regular second editions, if not more so, but traded it partly because of the Lovers card and partly because the second edition had quite a few copies that had red splatter marks, I was just "lucky", I got two regular and one pewter all with the dreaded red spots, one was particularly bad and I found it just distracting.

Those of you who are familiar with all of the different editions...do you think I "need" the 3rd edition? I have a 1st edition, 2nd edition, and Silver. I almost always use the Silver. I can't decide if I can justify buying the 3rd edition. I am intrigued by people saying the 3rd edition is brighter and more detail can be seen, but if I'm just going to continue preferring my Silver, I hate to spend the money so that another deck just collects dust! lol

I love the pewter 2nd edition! But I was lucky enough to get one without any of those streaks. I know it may be silly, but my personal thought on the lovers card is that it resembles Karen and Alex. I quite like it :)

Thank you for asking this Gulliver, I am in the exact same situation. I only have the third edition and I am not impressed with the thinness of the cards. They are beautiful, but I'm afraid to shuffle them! Also I don't care for the lovers, and wish I could have gotten the first edition with the Memento Mori extra card. Not sure I want to spend the kind of money that is asked for the first edition however if the cards are this thin.

when I first held the 3rd edition I was reminded of the quality weightiness of the 1st edition cardstock.
Do I sound like one of those verbose wine experts, only specialised in cardstock?
Only if you discussed bouquet...
Slightly off topic, but I could absolutely discuss bouquet! Am I the only one who loves the different smells of each deck? Some decks even smell happier and some smell darker, and some just smell commercial.
