The new D&G Fragrance Anthology is set to launch globally in September. The five fragrances are inspired by different tarot cards, each with a distinct identity and represented by a different model, some of them iconic and all of them naked in the advertising.

Gabbana and Dolce aimed to capture different sides to their personalities in the five fragrances, and gave them names referencing tarot cards and their corresponding numbers.

The scents: Le Bateleur 1, L’Imperatrice 3, L’Amoureaux 6, La Roue de la Fortune 10 and La Lune 18 were created without target, age or gender barriers. Each scent also gets its own face.

Supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova and Naomi Campbell, Fernando Fernandes, Noah Mills and Tyson Ballou all naked, star in the scent collection’s advertising campaign shot by Mario Testino. Campbell appears in the L’Imperatrice’s visuals, the empress. Schiffer fronts the imagery for La Lune, which is the moon, and Herzigova pairs up with Fernandes in the photo for La Roue de la Fortune, the wheel of fortune.

Mario Testino also shot a TV commercial for the collection.
The ads were edited into 30- and 60-second formats. P&G executives refused to discuss budgets, but industry sources estimate, based on the high sales target, that P&G might spend as much as $20 million to $25 million on media alone.

“We choose Claudia, Naomi and Eva for the iconic value they have in the minds of everybody,” said Dolce “They are icons,” added Gabbana, “not just for young women but older women too. Sometimes they are better known than actresses. People need to create icons, to see people they recognize.”

Oh WOW! My worlds are coming together, fashion and Tarot... j'adore!

Thanks for this heads up, I will be eagerly anticipating the sniffing. D&G started a cosmetics line this past year or so, and it would seem fragrence is a subset of that venture.

"Mmmm. Larry. Is that 'Hanged Man' you're wearing?"

"No darling, it's a new fragrance, "The Tower". Can't you smell the subtle touch of burning rubble?"

:D

It makes you wonder what Death would smell like. Or how about Judgement?

hmmm... I'm a bit dissappointed by the ads' images. I was picturing something more... taroty. And also the bottles. They seem too... clean, too square, too minimalistic. I'd have made something more vintage, more luxury, more sensual... more gypsy ;)

Glass Owl

I agree. I wish that there had more connections in the actual ad to Tarot.

beachcomb

this is really cool the gap and then calvin klein did something like this a few years ago- but without the tarot connection, which makes this really better imho. i hope that there is more of a connction in the print ads with the tarot.

Interesting. I wish they had a variant that was more citrus-y though. Perhaps they'll do a Sun card later on?

I think that would citrus an excellent choice for the Sun card. I have some aromatherapy hand cream that is called Optimism. It has jasmine, tuberose, and mate in it. On the label it suggests that you keep the hand cream "... wherever you need a burst of sunlight."

Now that I think about it, maybe we should start a game thread where we can bring up existing fragrances that we think fit various cards.

Ive seen them advertised on TV but not had chance to go sniffing the perfume counters.
