I love this deck! At least everything I have seen from it! Cielo means sky, heaven, doesn't it? Are these people who are in Heaven? Historical figures from the past? Tarot of the Reformation? Tarot of the Defender's of the Faith? Tarot of Faces? Hmm.... The suspense is and has been basically killing me, but nevertheless, I love the deck! I can't wait until it comes out. Possibility of by Christmas 2007, maybe? (Crossing eyes, fingers and toes!!)

Cool I can't wait!

I must say that I'm looking forward to seeing the new deck when it comes out.
The Golden Tarot is my favorite deck of all time, perfectly suited to me. Thank you so much for creating it. It's difficult to find a PRETTY deck with the symbolism I'm used to, and you definitely made a great one.

And the Queen of Wands is my Significator as well, so I especially love that you posted the draft for it.

You've sparked my curiosity, calling this new deck controversial...

Talking Random question...

I know you can't say a lot about the Tarot Cielo, but I was wondering if you had made the King of Wands yet, and if you included a lizard in the card?
Random, I know. It's significant to me, and I'm just curious.

Kat, the composition of each card is so simple and focused, the deck is shaping up to have an unusual sense of power overall...I am much intrigued. I think you are breaking some new Tarot design ground here.

Not that I'm an expert or anything.

Unless I'm mistaken, that's Anne of Cleves in the 2 of Swords.....and if ever a woman was put between 2 swords and had to think her way out of it, it was her. Is that the young Elizabeth I in Temperance? If you are doing a Tudor theme, it could be her......or more likely Margaret of York, the marriage game-piece who united York and Lancaster in her children.

Close!

2 of swords... Kristina of Denmark, who apparently wasn't too happy about being asked to marry Henry VIII after he'd had Anne Boleyn executed. "If I had two heads I might marry him" she's reputed to have said. heh, heh.

http://www.wga.hu/html/h/holbein/han.../03denmar.html

He did take Anne of Cleves as a next-best option though, so it was a very good guess Perhaps Holbein deliberately made them look similar, to please the King. Henry certainly wasn't impressed when the 'Cow of Cleves' turned up and looked nothing like her portrait, and the marriage was annulled supposedly without being consummated.

Temperance is another Tudor link. The young Catherine of Aragon, before her marriage to Arthur and then his younger brother Henry VIII.

There's no way that enough material exists to make the deck I want from just the Tudors' circle though, but you're on the right track. Well, at least in terms of me being inspired by back-stories when I decide which card to place certain historical figures on. You don't need to know who they are for the card to get across it's message though - it should show in their face (well, that's my intention...). Sometimes the portrait is of an unknown sitter, and so I imagine the back-story while I work on the card.

I will be doing a podcast discussing the deck soon, so keep an eye on http://www.tarotconnection.net/ if you don't already (you should - the podcasts are fascinating!). Pretty much 'all will be revealed' then, so I should save up any more questions people post here and answer them in the interview there. And you'll get to hear my accent

Please tell me that you will have a companion book with this deck, with just that kind of information in it.

lol... I'll try. And I'll put it all on a website for people to look up for free

I wrote a much longer companion book for Golden, but it got cut down to a biggish LWB. The main thing I passionately wanted included, and thankfully USGS agreed to my request, was to include the art sources for all the collage components. I'm keeping that same info as I develop this new deck, so I'll find some way to share it with anyone who's interested.

Thanks for asking!

The secret(s) are out :)

Leisa is such a pleasure to work with. I'm terrified of phones, and so was really nervous for this podcast interview but she did a great job of making me feel (relatively) at ease enough to blab on for an hour or so.

Hope you enjoy the interview.

Talking Funny Accent

I do want to say that Kat was a big bunch of fun to talk to.

Also I'm jealous of the way she says "Renaissance".
