8 of swords and 3 of pentacles

Ethereal

Not sure how to read this , so asking for help, here.

What did someone fundamentally lose, when they lost
this person out of their lives? i know elements clash
( air/earth). Not sure how to read it in that respect, either.
The cards however were upright, so perhaps they lost a
mentor, someone who gave them patronage and support,
And now they feel trapped in their mind, and really can't
see or find their way out of a situation without the other
persons input? Not sure on this at all. help anyone?

Air and Earth are neutral.

The Eight of Swords, all the person has to do is use the swords to break the binds. Three of Pentacles is a collaboration with others for building. It's problem solving.

So, it looks to me like the answers were available to them, and they lost out on a problem solving collaborator.

Ethereal

Theboomz: i like that!!! Problem solving collaborator; makes alot of
sense! reading what you posted, i got the flash that maybe since
this other person is no longer in their life, that this individual now
May have to figure things out for themselves...perhaps?
Thanks, great insight !

Ethereal

Could it possibly be the other gave them the answers
to their problems , (3 pents) and they.know all they have to
do is take action ..and cut what binds them (3swords)?
Basically, it's all up to them now to take action?
Few more thoughts here....

What did someone fundamentally lose, when they lost this person out of their lives?

Eight of Swords and Three of Pentacles

I would say this person fundamentally lost the feeling of helplessness and lack of direction (Eight of Swords) that came with being the centre of two other people (taking Three Pentacles to mean three people).

Losing an Eight of Swords frame of mind would be a good thing I would think.

And there are some schools of thought that see Air and Earth as weakening each other.

theboomz

Well it's a tough one, because IDK that the cards are saying the person lost the Eight of Swords, that would justify saying they also lost the Three of Pentacles But it could be, so they lost that lost feeling of not knowing the answer was right in front of them, and ... they lost a collaboration that was not working?

That works, so it depends on the context.

I'm aware that some people say earth and air weaken each other, I can't wrap my mind around that. It seems so ... not true in any way. heh

Ethereal

Kgirl: quite possibly could be that they lost that feeling
of helplessness no sense of direction...because several people
were involved. ..kind of like * to many cooks spoil the broth,*
Situation for this person. maybe it was a good thing..in a sense
of they are now left alone to figure things out for themselves.

I always did think air/earth weaken. thanks for the input
here; noted and appreciated!

Ethereal

Theboomz: i hear ya. honestly, both your interpretation
and kgirls would fit in this reading. the sense of this person
losing their collaborator, mentor, support system..yet being
able to cut those binds if they needed to. also, being in between
others caused them to lose sense of direction. maybe now
they gained their sense of direction again, losing 3 swords
mindset.

ok...i do see how both answers could fit, here. thanks for
chiming in again!

I like what Kgirl said. This is simply another take, or possibility. Hard to tell with 2 cards. Plus, keep in mind the question. What did they fundamentally lose? The 8 of Swords can say that their ability to see reality is stifled, or it could mean that there's a genuinely real horrible calamity. Feeling trapped, you're damned if you do & damned if you don't. Keep in mind the 'feeling' part; doesnt mean it's real. It can also refer to a period of time out, retreat, even entering a convent. It doesn't have to mean it's all bad but it's what's in your head at the time. I LOVE the 3 of Pents! According to Mary Greer, it's an extremely significant card of magic & is referred to as the 'Great Work' of creation. Bridging heaven & earth. Being able to overcome everything, maybe with a little help from above. But more on a practical everyday level, still a great card. Perhaps this person is convinced, maybe nearly incapacitated, thinking that has been lost & they're unable to act & recover. Their link to 'perfection' has been yanked out from under them, lost their mentor.

Wow, canid...that was certainly alot to think about!
Thank you, so much. it all rang true.
What really struck me was what you daid about all being
lost due to they lost their mentor. there was a genuine sense
of *lonliness* about this reading. i can see how kgirl got her
interp with elements clashing...however that overall sense
of *lonely* pervades in this reading. lke this person lost
a support system, someone who was the , * rock* for them
in the 3pents. just more thoughts.....
