A Little Pass Time

Debra

Welcome to AT.

This is not for me...it looks like B & D porn, which I don't use as the meaning of the 8 of swords.

The crowned one

I like the backgroud...a lot.

I would free the leg, and tie her only at the hips. I would surround her with the swords with an obvious opening right in front of her bindfolded eyes.

I like your vision, and I think I see where you are coming from, but your view is too harsh.

The eight of swords is self imposed and in ones mind. Yours implies to many outside forces controlling her based on the Rider-Waite.

Great start!

i see what you mean... think i've been interpretting that one wrongly haha,

(btw, the seedy S&M feel was what i was going for, but i've just realised I've been interpretting the card wrongly, so I'll revise it tomorrow I think :))

...ok, so I have revised my first attempt.

I used a photo of a victorian woman and re-coloured her because I think the expression and dress really fitted the theme, it was hard to re-colour a black and white photo, but I completely recoloured it to include the red dress from the rider Waite card, I think this depicts better what the meaning of the card is. :)

Feedback is again, much appreciated

Stephen,
Now having seen both pictures, I have to say I like the look of the second over the first.
I also wanted to say something about interpreting a card. You said in a prior post that you have interpreted this card wrong in the past. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a wrong interpretation.
We have two basic types of interpretation: The first is the universal association, which means this is the most known or widely used association. The second is the personal association, which means this is an association that means something to an individual.
So, whatever your interpretation of this card has been, I'm certain there is some validity in it for you. Don't dismiss it altogether because it might not be the same as the universal interpretation.
For example, for me this card (depending on where it falls in a spread) can mean a person thinks he or she is helpless in a situation, that there is nothing they can do. It can mean someone with a "I can't" mentality.
Other associations I have come up with over time: a situation that is "bound" to happen; something that can't be avoided, that there is "no way out" of it; your hands are tied, there really is nothing you can do; a blockage or obstruction (health); a kidnapping, someone being held hostage (crime); psychic block; someone in jail or prison; a situation that is being "tied up."
I'm curious to know how you have seen this card, but I also don't want to change the focus of the thread.

Hey thank you for the feedback, but I think since I was recreating the universal image of the card in my own way, it was probably the wrong angle to take. The 8 of swords to me, meant someone being abandoned blindly, i know that in my life I have been in this situation more than once and have felt intense anger, so I was aiming for an almost restraint feeling or quality to it - I was initially going to use an image of a woman in a red straightjacket- however i also fet I felt exploited at the time (hence the seedy bondage influence too) so I infused that into my image as well - maybe it was useful for personal artistic purposes, but not for a reworking of a universal symbolic image methinks :)

Thanks to all who have spoke so far, I would love to get some more feedback.

I agree with Debra about the first one but I like the second.
