The four gates to one palace bit reminds me of the 4 of Disks, which its 4 entrances. A very square type of image :) Sounds like a fun place to visit, apart from that death bit

A few thoughts

There are four gates to one palace

I get the sense that the "one palace" is Tiphareth. The elements are the "four gates" to that palace. But does that imply the four divisions of Malkuth, or the four sephiroth below Tiphareth?

I'm also thinking of Crowley's comment on the LBRP, and how it places one on the paths of Samekh and Peh. Between the Sun and the Moon.
And also how the LBRP opens the four gates via the name of ADNI, the divine name of Malkuth.

the floor of that palace is of silver and gold

Silver and Gold - the Sun and the Moon conjoined.

lapis lazuli & jasper are there

The sacred stones of Nuit and Hadit respectively.

and the emblems of death.

Death is Union. The disolution of the sense of self and Other.

Let him enter in turn or at once the four gates; let him stand on the floor of the palace. Will he not sink? Amn. Ho! warrior, if thy servant sink?

The danger of sinking into the four elements instead of standing tall within them?

But there are means and means.

Many different ways to enter the gates?

Be goodly therefore: dress ye all in fine apparel; eat rich foods and drink sweet wines and wines that foam! Also, take your fill and will of love as ye will, when, where and with whom ye will! But always unto me.

Live life to the full. Enjoy everything it has to offer. But to thine own self be true. The True Will is your own path to Nuit. Wrong yourself and you invoke the direful judgements of Ra-Hoor-Khuit.

Ra - Tiphareth. Hoor - Geburah. The path in between is Lamed - Karma.

That's not very helpful.

Similia, try looking into the connection between the 3rd degree of Freemasonry (the death of Hiram Abiff), and the legend of Osiris. In each case something was lost. In the former it was the "Word" that was lost. In the latter it is the phallus of Osiris. Both represent the same thing.

This might be a start: http://watch.pair.com/symbol.html#hiram
[Ignore the conspiracy crapola bits ;)]

Also consider Isis at Byblos, weeping over the broken column (phallus).

It's worth remembering that the line numbering for chapter one was added later for publication purposes. The original manuscript of the first chapter is unnumbered.

Yeah... how ‘bout that?

If the enumeration of verses in the first third is arbitrary, then so would be the division of all 220 into 22 sets of Ten.
Of course, 220 is also the 10th Tetrahedral number = 4x ∑(0-10); which kinda’ resonates well with The Book of Thoth
....but, it’s probably Nothing.

Fortunately I don't try to base my entire interpretation on the line numbering alone. I actually look at the text as well.
