Do you feel the authors of guidebooks get too much credit?

Glass Owl

On the Llewellyn site there is a wonderful article where Ellen Dugan explains the making of The Witches Tarot. It really opened my eyes as to how involved a collaboration can be between a creator and an illustrator.

Barbara Moore says a little about Pagan Cats in the creation. Sadly the blog where she went into detail seems to be long gone :(

Zephyros

A clear no from me. It's great that the artists gery credited today, even those who were not mentioned in their days (like Coleman-Smith and Lady Harris).

Just a small correction... Frieda Harris actually was credited at the time. When the cards were displayed in a gallery it was under her name. In fact, it was agreed between them that Crowley's notoriety could hurt the project and that it would be better if she took care of things like that.

Financially, neither got anything, since the deck was not printed during their lifetimes. She may have done the paintings, but it is, barring personal style, wholly "his" deck.

Alpha-Omega

Sometimes the person who writes the companion book instructs the artist on how they want the image to look. What to include and the description.
