Dragon Tarot -- The Empress III

Kosjitov

Dragon Tarot by Peter Pracownik

From the Little White Book:
III THE EMPRESS - Seated on a throne, she bears a newly born dragon in her arms, which has just cracked its way out of the egg. She is Queen over all forms of creativity, on the physical as well as other levels. In this image she is shown in a somewhat warlike visage, as if ready to fly to the defense of her brood.

Divinatory meaning - The need to cultivate your own creativity
Reverse meaning - Too easy-going. Not sticking up for your own rights.

The Empress sits on a throne as the LWB mentions, but they fail to describe it's ethereal nature. It sparkles like the doorway from the Fool card, and it is decorated with emeralds. Above her brow is a green gem, and the newborn drake curled in her arm is also of an emerald hue. This card may have a blue matriarch, but its ties to her as an "earth mother" are unmistakeable. Around her throne are further signs of life- a black tree with foliage, flowers that only seem to grow near the mother, and even a spider web (the "web of life"). The symbol at the bottom left of the card is a five pointed star. The symbol to the bottom right is that of venus proudly displayed.

Revisited

This hidden glyph represents the raised fist; which is a universal symbol of birth. A large cavern leading down a narrow passage, leading to birth. The card has a cradled newborn Dragon sucking his thumb. There is also a line across the fist also giving us a symbol for Venus Rising. The letter Gimel also resembles this raised fist symbol.

On her throne we also see green gems with the quaternary (Tetragrammaton) symbol. This symbolizes her ability to distinguish between good and evil, and the ability to use both, IE anger and gratitude whilst staying in the middle.

Her left outer wing rib (your right) crosses her tail making the + symbol leading to the next Arcanum the Emperor. Which we will get into then. It represents the 4 virtues of Hermetism: To Dare: To Know: To Keep Silent: To Will.

At bottom of card we see a five point star to the dragons right (your left), and the Venus symbol to her left (your right). The interwoven endless 5 point star knot combined with the Venus symbol equates too: Humanities bonds with all of nature, and that of the Goddess Isis or Goddess Venus.

Her throne is once again the cube representing Cups, Wands, Coins, and Swords. Below her cube shaped throne we see two parts of the eggshell. The smaller shell represents a shield meaning that creation extends itself over the highest regions. And the larger shell is that of a crescent shape under her foot signifying her control over the sub-lunar world or lowest realm of creation. And also the cracks and ridges of the crescent shell forms a male dragon face creating the link between nature and the archetype.

Stars on her blackened throne, and the illuminated night time sky behind the Empress reveals the idea that the Sun being the centre of all emanated life throughout all of creation. This glowing light of the sun behind the Empress also tells us she is now the celestial Isis, caring and nurturing, but will defend her brood ferociously. This illumination also reveals the harmonious balance being kept between the Underworld, Our World, Netherworld, and the Outer World or Astral World. The blooming flowers, upon the tree of life; represents purity and continuity.

The other thing very hidden on this card is the total of the 2 tails and 10 horns equaling 12, which is a representation of the twelve Zodiac Signs. The 12 Zodiac signs also hints to the physical plane and its properties.
