Estensi Tarot-Lo Scarabeo's 'golden deck'

Cerulean

Due in April 2004 according to the catalogue and gilded.

I'm just putting a placeholder for notations or reflections. I'm starting to make a list from my sources about references to the restored Estensi Tarot and its inspiration. The source is more commonly known in it's original form of 16 surviving cards as

so-called Charles VI or Gringonneur deck.

More correctly, Ross Caldwell identified and let me know this Estensi Tarot as Tarot of (Roger de) Gaignières. In the Ross Caldwell's excellent gathered information and historical article--scroll down the page, near the last--he writes about Grigonneur.

The information about Gringonneur is good, but these cards themselves or their reproductions are also discussed below in other sources:

---Charles VI in Brian Innes/Margaret Starbird books...

A little more, mention of Jo Dworkin minors

http://www.llewellyn.com/bookinfo/J461

Once known as the Charles VI or Gringonneur Tarot, this historic masterpiece has been restored, completed, and renamed to reflect its true history. This late 15th century deck was made in Ferrara for the Estes family. The Minor Arcana, added by Dworkin, were inspired by frescos in Schifanoia Palazzo, owned by the Estes family. These images are alive with movement and wit and are highlighted with gold foil.

I did a net search and it seems in the marketing literatute, details from the Schifanioa Palace frescos are also included. Since the two other tarots that have a few scenic Ferarra fresco designs include:

Tarocchi di Matteo Maria Boiardo in dark brown and sepia tones circa 1996

Tarocco Storia de Citta Ferrara, out of print by Amerigo Folchi in 1987, watercolor/pen paintings...

this gilded one might be quite unique.

Course, it's my eagerness...so we'll see. Gilded decks may take longer, but if it hits by April then it's only a few weeks to wait!

Cheers,

Mari H.

Amazon.com is saying August, unfortunately. Have you seen an earlier release date somewhere else?

OK, I had seen that thread but glossed over the reference to a paper catalog from Lo Scarabeo. Hopefully Llewellyn's distribution will come through around the same time, or at least they will be available from Alida and the like. I am looking forward to the Estensi deck as well.

Got an update from Tarotgarden.com

A kind reply said it is likely August 2004, so they couldn't handle an order for it.

Sorry to hear this, but I do have more study work in my spare time that I can do on the imagery of the time and the Estensi family...so I am using my cutouts for study and reading the poetry and biographies related to Ferarra.

Ah well, catch you all in August, hopefully!

All of these wonderful decks recently being released that are available only with metal leaf or metallic colours! It's too bad for those of us allergic to metal leaf and metallic colours.
