There is no evidence of a tax stamp that went around the bottom of the box, as shown in your pic. The faint markings shown in the photo GWbottom.jpg may be the remains of a price sticker?

I have a Cartes Lenormand by H.P. Gibson & Sons Ltd, from the 1920's with the same sort of box as yours, but I also have a university books from 1959 in the same style of box .. Good luck with further research, it is a big part of the fun!
