Well Balder, this looks really cool. Only it's not the deck I want scanned! How did you do that?

What I really would like is to have no shading at all (all the grey out) so that I have just the backgrounds.

But I don't have time now to look after this matter. It'll have to wait till the end of summer. I am as busy as a bee for the next three weeks before I go on my summer holiday. (If things go well, I will even be meeting some American Aeclecticians. :) ).

Balder, thank you so much for doing what you did!!!!

((((((Balder)))))))

Diana:

Well, I don't understand what you want, but I understood it was the wrong deck, so I turn off the scanner then :)

Hope you'll have a nice and sunny summer!

:)

Diana

Balder, I expressed myself badly. I mean "outlines", not "backgrounds".

If scanning & playing around with it won't drop out all the shading, why not scan & enlarge the image, then put it up on the glass of a window, put another sheet of paper over it & trace what you need, then scan those in & shrink down to the size you want (or take it to a photocopy place & shrink them down). Doing the illustrations by hand will make it more of a deck you've got a part of yourself in.

Hi! This is my first post here, so I hope I'm doing it right. :D

Do you mean like this? (I know it's not the right deck, but...)

If so, it was very easy to do using the scan Balder made, but the lines don't look so solid. Some tweaking should fix it.

Null! Thanks for responding to me on your very first post! I am honoured. :)

Wow! That looks really beautiful.

I'm going on holiday for three weeks tomorrow. Don't have time for this kind of thing now, but I will contact you on my return......

Have you gone to the New Members section and introduced yourself?

WELCOME TO AECLECTIC!

(Edited to add: Hope to see you in the Historical and Iconographical section!)

There's a few options...

1. Tarot Arista has Marseilles drawings on light beige backgrounds--if you copy them in a 'lighter' setting, you might have the black and white outlines for study:

http://www.wicce.com/aristapix.html

2. Images with Marseilles, but has gray:

http://www.wischik.com/lu/tarot/index.html

3. I believe there are line drawings of Marseilles in different books with outlines only and no shading. The one title that comes to mind right now is "Tarot and Magic" by Gareth Knight, also published as "The Treasure House of Images." If you pick up a used copy you'll also find these are small illustrations--but I don't know if they are all one size. The first volume only has majors.
I believe he uses a Camoin or Convers reproduction, which might be the deck that Diana wants.
The other title with black and white outlines of a Marseilles in a tiny version is the Castle of Crossed Destinies with the Tavern of Crossed Destinies as well--these have cards on the side of the text. It also looks like a Convers or Camoin
If people come up with more titles, I'm certain Diana would appreciate it..it's easier to cut out the illustrations of an older book...or photocopy and cut out, if that works.

Thank you for the kind welcome, Diana! :) I only wish I could be more helpful with this, but sadly, I don't have a scanner or anything like that.

Here is another card I tried:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-7/263041/marmage.gif

...done from the image located here: (hope no one minds!) http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/marseilles/index.html

If anyone else wants to try, this only takes a few seconds to do. I just changed the image to greyscale, then adjusted the color "levels" which takes away much of the shading that's left. (I am using an image editing program called "The GIMP", but more popular programs like Paintshop or Photoshop should be able to do the same things.) For this image, I also blurred it a bit, then sharpened it, so the lines wouldn't look as harsh and jagged as they did in the first image I changed. Some lines still aren't very solid though, but I'll bet someone who knows more about image editing than I do could fix this. :) Or the lines could just be retouched by hand, but that would take a bit of effort.

Oh, and about the Historical and Iconographical section --- that place is GREAT!! I've been lurking over there for a bit -- so much wonderful info! :D

Null - That's pretty close. :)

I might have to give this a try.

Wish I had a Marseilles deck.
