Imagine a sleezy TV tarot reader that talks total BS and claims to be a "Master Tarot Reader". Imagine this person making comments like, "High Priestess is a negative card, because the shameless thing has her feet pressed on the moon" (RWS image).

Now remember that stunning deck - The Light and Shadow Tarot

Imagine the person mentioned above, takes the light and shadow deck, copies the images and colors them with Magic Markers, and sells and markets it locally as her own (and I'm definitely sure she hasn't taken permission). And on top of it all, cut off some images and used RWS figures, keeping other parts of the Light and Shadow Deck.

Should I report this person?

Who would you report him/her to? Maybe you could notify the copyright holder of the decks this person is infringing on?

Uck. People like that give everyone else a bad name...but I don't know how to go about stopping this type of activity. (I hope someone else has some good ideas.)

ETA:

Oh, I see this person is on television? I would definitely write to the station that airs him/her. I might write to the person asking how s/he sees the HP in the light you described.

Well, imagine if you were the creator of one of those decks and you spent numerous hours thinking and refining your creation then someone comes along and dumb it down claiming it to be their own and selling it without the true essence it was meant to be. Would you want to be told? Another thing to look at too is will this person stop doing what their doing after being outted? I would out this person because of the unethical things they are doing, but nowadays there is a new saying "Stop Snitching", but in this case I would.

I would certainly turn them in to the owner of the Light and Shadow Tarot and I would complain to the TV station airing the program.

I don't know if there is a law against bad tarot readers, but you can be assured that if enough people complained about it, she'd be off the air pretty quick.

Contact the publishers of the decks - they are probably the easiest to find and get in touch with. I would call them, though, so they get the information as soon as possible. The person you are describing is in complete violation of copyright laws and seems crooked and is a black eye to Tarot readers everywhere who are ethical and law abiding.

You would do your community and the world of Tarot a great service helping to get this person off the street and out of business.

Yes, to the creator of the Light and Shadow deck and let them handle it as they see best fit.

I think the Light and Shadow deck creator and artist are no longer with us, so it'd be the publisher and the TV company you would tell.... plus perhaps whatever the local equivalent of Trading Standards is if no action is taken.

As to the weird interpretations, just complain to the TV station as you would about an innacuracy in any program.

I doubt very much if the TV station involved would be particulalry concerned in terms of the wether the interpretations of the deck were correct or not. There are so many varying opinions about tarot in the first place, let alone an individuals opinion on a given card. So I really don't think they would take any complaint seriously, even if the tarot community in general strongly disagreed with those opinions. Its hardly as if the general public would be in uproar.

As for the selling of the deck itself, that is arguably a more tangible issue of copyright. I have been quite active on other threads in advocating a strong response to cases of copyright infringement. When people write to me and ask permission to use my images I almost always say yes. When I find them being sold on e-bay in some form or other without even asking me, then I contact them and insist they remove the items or else.

But once again if this deck is a mix of images from various decks, modified with additional input i.e. coloring etc. Then its not so clear cut. I know I would'nt like it if it were my deck, but it would probably require some additional legal effort to establish (subjectively) that despite the modifications, its still inherently the same Light and SHADOW deck, and as such the modifications do not constitute a new work.

Nevertheless, I suggest the artist or estate of the artist is informed, so that they can consider how they wish to react.

Nope ,can't find it,the person that was associated with the light and shadow deck creation just joined AT,have a look in the newbie intro's ,can't even remember their name ,but they were there,somewhere. perhaps someone with more skills at search would be able to find him,IT was a post concerning the LIGHT AND SHADOW clarification post.
