Sum of a spread

Does anyone use the sum of the #s in a spread? (any spread) If so, what do you do with the court cards? Any particular spreds folks recmmend to use with this technique?

See Post 3 of the Table of Contents - All About Reading sticky Note at the top of the Using Tarot Cards forum for already indexed threads on the use of Quintessence cards.

I don't see a specific list of spreads that utilize the Quintessence card in the Tarot Spreads Forum Index, but those spreads often have 5 cards. I did a search on this forum for the word Quint and came up with 6 threads that contain that term.

You also don't have to use a spread that contains the position. You can add up the cards from any spread to find the Quint card.

As for Courts, most people consider them to not be numbered and therefore don't include them when adding up numbers to find the Quintessence card. If that doesn't seem right to you, you can make the Page 11, the Knight 12, the Queen 13 and the King 14.
