weekly collection

SunChariot

That depends on what having a "collection" means to you. If you just want them for readings, for yourself or others, there is no problem there at all. For myself, that is the only reason I have my decks to use. As long as they work for you then they are useful. And if, you're happy with that that is really what counts.

But there are some people who collect decks just to collect them, even some people who do not read Tarot collect decks. Although I am not a collector in that sense, I would think one of two things would happen. Either they would be harder to trade because they could be less popular, or they could become worth more as they would be more rare than the regular ones. I honestly don't know, as I don't collect in that sense, but someone else here I am sure can answer that.

I wonder if this is a publication that might come to the UK ? Partworks like this are very popular ( I used to run a newsagents. ) Hope it heads this way !

It would help to popularise tarot in this country and make it more "normal" if people see it in the shops alongside Heat and the Daily Mail and so on. I used to get a history part-work when I was a kid and I can remember going out to scour every newsagent in the area for it one week.

In fact the decks will probably be a great collector's item in their own right some day.

They would be like promo records, or stamp "varieties" I guess - a more "exotic" version of the real thing. I suppose I "accumulate" rather than specifically collect - which to many snobs ;) implies a certain appreciation and study of the object itself, along with any other items like promotional posters, adverts, misprintings and so on rather than just amassing as many as possible without regard to rarity or value. In that case I would expect that as a curiosity they would be much sought after by collectors who specialise in tarot "varieties" or limited editions rather than the "art" side of tarot collections. It depends on the size of the former market as opposed to the latter.

I like reading books about the Soviet Union, and have amassed quite a collection of memoirs written by Western journalists living in Moscow. But I'm not bothered as to whether the book is paperback, hardback, first edition, still in its dustjacket, just so long as I can read it. Therefore for me buying one of these decks would only be of interest to get my hands on that particular deck (and LS are doing some really cool decks at the moment that are still rather expensive even at the Amazon price) (btw are you taking orders?!). But for collectors interested in the "variety" aspect there may be a certain value in them.

Am I right in thinking that LS are republishing their existing decks in a kind of serial? How does the price compare with buying the deck in a normal edition?

thanks for your replys everyone. it is the full decks that come with it and they are boxed but dont have the little white book.

they dont tell you the size of the cards. it just says lo scarabeo and C2005.
so far i have
the new marsellas.
the homony tarot
the tarot of the native americans
the celtic tarot
renissance tarot
universal waite
egiption
gustav klimt ( a realy strange pack that i dont like very much)
pagan tarot
the new vision
and the book of thoth. although this is a realys strange deck i thought the book o0f thoth was the crowly pack but i dont think this one is. the images look a lot older and although i dont own a crowly pack, as basically im scared of them for some reason. but ive seen enouth images and this isnt that one. this one for exaple card number 5 looks the world card but has voyage writen on the top. i cant get my head around them. plus the translation is off. some of them are translated into english. like card number 13 says marrige but most of them are in loads of languages but not englis. very odd deck.

:bugeyed: the Klimt for 10 €?!? Now that is really a good prize!!! Is yours also with gold foil?

Crowqueen

Great minds think alike, Catlin!

I was thinking, if Starchild doesn't relate to that deck very well...they are not yet able to use the trading forum, but once they are...you may have two prospective traders!

crow queen thankyou for the link. yes that is the thoth tarot i have. it seems by the link that im not the only one who has confusions over those cards. but it was realy worth reading that review. thanks.
