The Book of The Law 3.36

Craxiette

The prophet= Ankh-af-na-Khonsu
The God= Ra-Hoor-Khuit
...as on the stele. But I think also, as a paralell to each and every one of us as the 'prophets' of our individual universe, adressing our HGA.

From Crowley's point of view, he as the prophet of the new Aeon where R-H-K takes the seat on the throne, Crowley also being the reincarnation of Ankh-af-na-Khonsu...if we wish to believe that ;)

Always Wondering

To link together the centuries in this manner is nothing strange to the accomplished Magician; but in view of the true character of Time as it appears to the Adept in Mysticism, the riddle vanishes altogether.

I like this. It's very helpful in conjuction with a recent discussion on reincarnation. I applied this thought to evolution as well. It is rather strange to me to consider evolution without the character of Time.

I put the smiley at the end of my sentence about reincarnation as I felt it would be too complex and off topic to explain my take on it...but now that you bring it up I'll give it a shot...feel free to disagree or not understand what the heck I'm trying to say

Thanks to Einstein, we now know that there is no such thing as 'universal time', time is relative and local to every single particle of the universe. -What a wonderful insight about Hadit! He is the infinitely small point who is the center of every sphere. As he (time) 'goes' in space who's circumference is nowhere (Nuit) the illusion of the space/time continuum (Our universe) is created.

Evolution is generally speaking the process of reincarnation from the point of view of replicators. Most people are only aware of the more known and studied physical replicators of DNA and RNA (in genes), but our human societies are increasingly dominated by the evolution of non-physical or cultural replicators, called 'memes'. Even DNA as a replicator is non-physical in the sense that it is the information in the molecules that really are the replicating unit, not the physical molecules themselves. More and more we are discovering that the process of evolution is not something confined to biological systems, but a universal tendency or law (a.k.a the will of the gods) that states that what replicates (reproduces) sucessfully tends to be around to do so again. The sucess (evolutionary fitness) is dependent on dealing with the obstacles and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise from everything else being in existence from THAT particular point of view, which will be and look different for every separate part in the evolving system, even if certain strategies seem to generally be better tricks than others. -Finding any parallells with the Will? ;) A big misstake many make is to consider for instance a human being as being "more evolved" than for instance a flatworm. They are not. They are equally evolved and in any particular moment perfectly so for their environment. Besides, flatworms will probably be around for far longer than us humans will! But nature makes no such distinctions, to live for only a few hours is as good of a strategy as surviving centuries. Nuit loves us all! ;)

We don't yet know of any replicators that can move past the time/space barrier, which means that when you die, you leave the loop of evolution, but what you were in terms of genes and memes, the information you left behind by interacting with everthing else around you certainly does. Just think of how from a memetic point of view, Crowley is very much alive and his ideas "replicating" promiscuosly in so many of our heads! :p "Do not change a letter" of the book of the Law is a good strategy to keep that meme from deteriorating through mutations -which is the greatest challenge in the memetic world. Genetically, he has had a much smaller impact on the world and probably nobody considers that of very much importance. This is how memetically biased we are. And yet there are plenty of evolutionists out there who try to explain everything we do in biological terms, or even worse, try to pretend that cultural phenomenomena are nothing more than secondary biological functions that 'somehow' help us towards the primary goal of biological fitness!

So the grand finale conclusion that I jump to is that only from the perspective of Hadit is evolution and reincarnation exactly the same thing. Hadit does not evolve or reincarnate, but is the very unit of evolution and reincarnation that through his going in time and space creates all evolved things. Because some constellations reoccur more persistently then others (such as the DNA molecule), we identify them as the reincarnating units, but this is only superficial, behind them is the only thing that is eternal -the dance of separation and unity of Hadit and Nuit. If we learn how to identify with this, we can experience ourselves as BEING the process, rather than identifying ouselves with the temporary shells, the products of that process.

Anybody still reading this ramble..?

Edit: Conclusion explained.
So, there just MIGHT be another set of replicators out there that are not memes, but something more subtle. This COULD account for the experience of previous lives. There are many more "down to earth" explanations about what could give rise to such experiences, so even if some of the experiences are actually genuine, we have to assume that some are just the combination of a vivid imagination and old, subconcious memories recombining in new ways. But the bottom line is, nothing in my reasoning explicitly rules it out. I don't think we have enough knowledge about the world to do so, it is a mystery and I try to keep my mind open about it.

Aeon418

Verse 36. A solar number! And that makes me think of the hexagram.
The Red Triangle is the descending tongue of grace; the Blue Triangle is the ascending tongue of prayer
This Interchange, the Double Gift of Tongues
Up until now it's been one way traffic from R.H.K. It's all very nice being on the receiving end of a bit of tongue, but you have to reciprocate and give some back.

To me this verse is the beginning of the "ascending tongue of prayer". In a way this is quite apt because the following verses were, for the most part, written by Crowley himself and inserted into the text of Liber Legis after the completion of the dictation.

There are 7 words in this verse and 28 letters.

7 = Netzach

28 = the Mystic number of Netzach

Among other things the sephira Netzach is the sphere of desire, adoration, and aspiration. :p

I am a bit confused about when the red triangle is descending and when it is ascending, vice versa for blue triangle...why the two versions?

It's just a different way in which the hexagram can be interpreted to represent union with the Angel.

The usual interpretation is that the upright triangle represents the HGA and the inverted triangle represents the human self. The union of these two triangles represents K&C.

But at the Equinox of the Gods (see the book of the same name) it was revealed to Crowley that the inverted red triangle was the special sign of Horus formed by linking together the sephiroth of Chesed, Geburah, and Tiphareth on the Tree of Life. This descending red triangle represents the inspiration of the divine entering (or manifesting) into the human self. The upright blue triangle represents the human self ascending into Godhead through the power of aspiration.

Both are valid interpretations of the hexagram, but where the first interpretation indicates the final goal of union the second interpretation seems to show the process towards that union.

Craxiette

Ok! I was confusing it with the elemental triangels of water and fire...but in light of the sephirots it kind of makes sense, I suppose.

Aeon418

Up to this verse I feel that it has all been about the descending red triangle (tongue) of grace. It's the inspiring force that is always there, always waiting to manifest. But it must be matched by aspiration, the ascending blue triangle. So here the Horus monologue ends and the prophet (the human self) addresses the god and begins to aspire and adore. It's this sudden change of speaker coupled with the significance of the number 36 (6x6=36) that leads me to suspect a hexagram related theme in this apparently plain and unimportant verse.

Than again I might be wrong.

Yes.

I hadn't heard of memes before. But they actually explain alot. Especially the vertical kind that don't spread through inheritance. I've often wondered, for expample, how my adopted nephew could look and act so much like my cousin he never met. Or why I feel a certian connection to sometimes strangers. I could go on and on, I'm still processing.

Makes a lot more sense than a lot of other theroies I've heard.
