Tarocco Di Marsiglia (Svizzera 1804)

gregory

I found a Meneghello Dotti (1845) that is horribly overlaminated. It is just a thick, shiny coat, completely ruining any authenicity to the feel or possibility for intimacy with the images.

The description card reads -

"Tarocco Italiano
Milano 1845 c.
Ristampa fedelissima da un gioco del Dotti
Edizione di 2500 es.
N. 1318 / 2500

Il Meneghello di
O. Menegazzi
Milano - Italia 1985"

This seems MUCH more like what SolSionnach is describing. I'm just amazed it happened to any of the 1992 printing of the Soprafino. It could be that there was more than one run, I guess.

I suppose now I shall have to get all mine out....But not till I get back in July :)

you'll see the erased(?) inscription should have read;
"FAIT PAR JACQUE ROCHIAS A NEUCHATEL"

The logotype "JR" in the 4 of Coins stands for "Jacque(s) Rochias".
So this deck should be an ancestor of those by Gassmann and
Muller ("Tarot Classic").

Drudging up the past here...

I just added this pack to my small collection of TDM's & find it very intriguing. It's the IL Meneghello #1898 of 2000. Kenji provided the above information back in 2005. The destroyed logo on the two Deniers looks like a pretty rough job. The awkward insertion of the name "Jean Proche" on Strength & the Devil sticks out. Also The Chariot has the initials "JR" on medallion & the four Deniers has the initial "R".

So, it seems that the pack was originally published as by Jacque Rochias. The explains the JR on the Chariot & the R on the four Deniers.

The printing blocks were used later by Jean Proche who did a hack job of removing Jacque Rochias's inscription from the two Deniers & sloppily added his name to two cards so to get credit for publishing the pack.

Does anybody know the whole story? I've been through Kaplans encyclopedia vol 1-3 & found nothing. I did a search here but haven't found the solution to this mystery.

I just received this deck and I was very surprised about the sloppiness with which this cards were cut. You can see a lot of the white cardboard background on the edges! A real shame considering the great card stock and the beauty of the images. I haven't really sat down to enjoy the different pictures because the ugly edges just put me in a bad mood....

Is this just an unlucky freak deck or do they all look like this?

BTW, I already wrote Il Meneghello about my discontent and I'm waiting for their reply. It's my first deck by them.... hopefully not my last.

I have a shedload of their decks and all are REALLY nice. They are among the best publishers going - you must have been incredibly unlucky.

I agree with this 100%.

The IM decks that I own are some of my most beautiful, well crafted decks. Though my copy of the Marsiglia is my least favorite, as mine is the heavily, plastic laminated version. It is so unlike any of the others decks I own from IM. I honestly think I could safely use it while soaking in a bath. :D But it still looks very attractive, and antique looking underneath that lamination.

Well, the lamination on this deck is not excessive at all. It's pretty nice, actually. And the images and pips are gorgeous, but the edges pretty much ruin it....

Here's an example:

Thanks for posting that, I should dig mine out to make sure I am talking about the right deck! I don't think I'd mind that edge, but I can respect that it bugs you. :D

Have you thought of trimming?

Okay, my mistake, this is not the same deck. Mine is called "Classico Tarocco Di Marsiglia" but the Star card from mine is not at all like yours.

And like I said, the lamination is plastic. No problem at all though with the edges. Weird, they need to come up with some other names for their decks! Way too confusing. :D

I guess I could do some trimming.... I'm gonna wait and see what I hear from IM. If this is the way all the Svizzera 1804 decks they do look like, I'm probably gonna have to just make peace with it. The images and colors are truly adorable.

Really Gorgeous.

My pack has the same white edge on a few cards.

But the stock & laminate are very nice.
