Star as outcome with Two of cups + 3 of wands

Krix

These cards were in the outcome position of a celtic cross spread about what will happen between myself and another individual.

Star, Two of Cups, 3 of Wands

I pulled additional cards because the Star is never very clear to me.
At the time, I interpreted these cards to mean that some sort of relationship was possible, but that it's far off. The Star was hope, the 2c was the actual relationship itself, and the 3w was also reinforcing the hope from the Star card, to wait patiently because something was coming back to me.

Or so I thought.

Literally the day after I did this spread, I heard from this individual that he is engaged to a mystery woman after only one year of dating (he has only mentioned seeing someone a few times, not even a name). So now I'm wondering if these cards were actually saying that those hopes are now out of reach (star) and that I will forever be like the guy in the 3w, waiting for a relationship (2c) that will never happen.

I will mention that in the Advice position was the Hanged Man, which I took to mean just pause and wait, but now maybe it was saying "let it go"?

Has anyone else had this combination? Which interpretation should I go with?

Thank you in advance.

I am thinking about an interpretation that is a mix of both. To me, the Two of Cups means the attraction that exists between you on a minor level, and as long as it exists there is hope. At the same time, I think the other cards in the spread are telling you to not be "locked down" by the hope.

Thanks Munin. I think I am still holding on to hope lol. I found it interesting that there weren't any "ending" cards to signify we were "done", although Death has appeared in other spreads which I think signifies that things are now ending in one sense but are changing for the better (maybe just friends).

I think the cards may mean that you were hoping (Star) for love (2 of Cups), but that there were already plans being executed (3 of Wands) while you were doing this.

The Hanged Man usually means new views and sacrifice, the very card before the Death card, so it possibly means that accepting his engagement to another woman may possibly be the sacrifice you have to make before this phase in your life ends. The Hanged Man is not a very encouraging card, and you might like to think thoroughly if you want to still fight for this.

I think what you said is very accurate about what I was hoping for. And yes, I am currently trying to accept this turn of events, in terms of where do I go from here. I think he would think it odd if I cut all contact, but even remaining friends at this point feels difficult. I realize any disappointment I feel is caused by my own wishful thinking not based in reality, and if I feel
Led on it's my own fault. Thank you!

The Star isn't a bad card, on the contrary. Maybe it looks like too good to be true or too "spacy" in some way, but the other cards that you pulled don't show impediments.
On the 3 of Wands there is a sunset on the horizon, and with the 2 of Cups these cards look like very romantic; the Star as well probably is.
On the other hand the Hanged Man isn't grounded at all and an advice could be to get a new perspective or else to let go and trust destiny.

Probably each card in your celtic cross can help you to guess if this outcome will become something concrete or just stay a romantic dream.

This might be off-topic, but if you tell him without fuss that you're gonna be a bit busy at work so you may be scarce but you truly wish him well, I think he'd understand. He'd be floating on clouds of happiness now because of his engagement, so I don't think he'd make too much out of it. Instead of considering what he would think, it might be time to prioritize what you'd feel. It would only hurt more if you decide to stick around and you see him so happy with someone else. If you finally decide that you won't pursue him anymore, cut and cut cleanly. Don't leave yourself hanging (as per the Hanged Man), just mourn all that never was (Death) until you get a clearer view of things, gain some balance for yourself (Temperance). You may very well get tempted (Devil) and you may feel like your world's falling apart (Tower), but just hang in there, because there definitely are better things waiting (Star) for you. Purge your illusions (Moon) to gain back the joy that you once had (Sun), learn your lessons, and when you finally feel renewed (Judgement), you'll be ready to fully go out and enjoy the World again. See, I just guided you through the Major Arcana from Hanged Man to the World lol. I hope you'd get through all of this with a minimum of pain, just enough for you to get wiser.

That's why I was so confused. The other cards in the spread weren't all negative, they just hinted at a lot of things being up in the air or not concrete. The Wheel of Fortune also made an appearance. So I think yes, a lot is out of my control in that the outcome was already in the works and I had no idea. So in a way I have to let go because I can't hold onto these dreams anymore. But maybe with time I can gain a new perspective and maybe remain acquaintances at the least, if I feel I can.

Thank you for this! It did make me smile :)

I do plan on limiting contact with him for the time being. I am trying not to think about why he didn't make mention of this other girl sooner, or when he told me about the engagement why he didn't seem over the moon but rather emphasized "the timing is right"... Not very romantic if you're crazy about someone! Unless he wanted to lessen the impact or something.

Thank you for your post, I will be fine once the sting wears off :)

Star, 2C, 3w jump out at me as being his position but it's impossible to judge accurately without the other cards.
