but as this is an early, and hard to replace, edition, not one I would put under the bed.

It WAS with some other prized books, I wasn't reading it and just recently decided to go through it and...poof. Figures it was the Poe, one of my favs.

I am the only one who lives here, well, my dog does, but he is not much help (but then he never chews books or shoes either, so that's a plus).

It is an EARLY edition and I know it can't just have vanished.

I just got what the squirrel association might be - where you would have 'squirreled it away' so some secret or special spot that you have, where your intention was to keep it safe...

So funny that I picked up your dog's energy as a person
But I did see dog images and dismissed it thinking it was my own dog needing something!
