Pull out the Major Arcana. You know, the archetypes.

Now, I need to know what song, any song throughout time, goes with each archetype, in your professional opinion. So what would the Emporer want playing when he was in full Emporer mode. Same for each of the Major Arcana.

For example, what song would you say really addresses what the Fool means to you?

How about the Hierophant?

Please let us know what deck you are using when make your suggestions. I'd like to try to get a song for each of the major flavors, which would be RWS, Thoth and Marseille.

This is not a game, it is a real question for Tarot Professionals.

So I really hope that we get some Doors in the mix. I keep thinking about Riders on the Storm for the Marseille Chariot!!! Is that crazy or what? But then it gets so crazy with the killer on the road.....his mind is squirming like a toad....and then I think....Hanged Man. So I need your help here. Professional help.

I have a purpose for this....I'm making myself a CD with songs for each of the majors, to be played in a future Tarot class I'm creating. Which is why I need to leave this in the hands of the Professional Readers on the forum.

Are we clear here?

I'm so professional I charge people just to walk by me.

You know, I actually do that. I assign songs, well, more like song phrases, to cards, and write them on my note pages.

I'll jump in with the very obvious Beatles "Here Comes The Sun", for the Devil card, of course. (ha HA! no no no, for the SUN, actually. whoo, jeeees.)

Applicable in all decks, but this one is written in a study book on Rohrig.

Karl you silly milly. What a prankster...Here comes the Sun for the Devil! }) But seriously, I'd love to hear more of your snippets....do tell Karl. Don't make me beg.....

Well I was just looking around youtube.com (because hey I only have to care for small children come morning-total no-brainer there, right?) and was trying to decide if Berlioz is really the best choice for the Thoth....I'm kind of kidding there....

And of course I love Hildegard of Bingen, so I found this gem and thought....High Priestess. But she does deserve something kind of funky too....so maybe that Little Prayer song by Madonna? Too much?

The Hermit (RWS)

Living on my own
Words and music by Freddie Mercury

Sometimes I feel I'm gonna break down and cry (so lonely)
Nowhere to go nothing to do with my time
I get lonely so lonely living on my own

Sometimes I feel I'm always walking too fast
And everything is coming down on me down on me
I go crazy oh so crazy living on my own

I don't have no time for no monkey business
I get so lonely lonely lonely lonely yeah
Got to be some good times ahead

Sometimes I feel nobody gives me no warning
Find my head is always up in the clouds in a dreamworld
It's not easy living on my own

I don't have no time for no monkey business
I get so lonely lonely lonely lonely yeah
Got to be some good times ahead

I don't have no time for no monkey business
I get so lonely lonely lonely lonely yeah
Got to be some good times ahead

The Hermit (Thoth)

The Doors - Break on Through (to the Other Side)

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get(s high)

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side

;)

I don't know the name of the song, regretfully, but for the Emporer, I'd say the song that's played for the President of the US. Know which one I mean?

The Lovers - I Will Find You by Clannad

The Chariot from any deck (I couldn't resist, it's my signature :)) the ending would be the Chariot rx :(

455 Rocket by Kathy Mattea

Mr. Smith had an oldsmobile
Baby blue with them wire wheels
I took her home the day that she was adverstised
He said she leaked when, it would rain
And sounded like an aeroplane
But I knew she was a jewel in disguise
She had a 455 Rocket
The biggest block alive
I couldn't hardly wait just to take my turn

She was made for the straight aways
She grew up hating Chevrolets
She's a Rocket, she was made to burn

Whose junkpile piece of Chevelle is this?
You boys come here to race or just kiss?
Don't you wanna know what I got underneath my hood?
I know she might sound like she's missing
But buddy, she could teach you a lesson
In just a quater mile, and I'll smoke you good

In my 455 Rocket
The kind the police drive
I couldn't hardly wait just to take my turn
She was made for the straight aways
She grew up hating Chevrolets
She's a Rocket, she was made to burn

I'm telling you and I ain't ashamed
I cried when that wrecker came
As we skid I thought I heard the angels sing (sounded like the Beach Boys)
We hit the curve and began to sail
Took out most of the safety rail
Even the cop asked me
"Man, what'd you have in that thing?"
I had a 455 Rocket
The very kind you drive
You oughta watch yourself when you take that turn

'Cause she was made for the straight aways
She grew up hating Chevrolets
She's a Rocket, she was made to burn
Lord, she's a Rocket she was made to burn

Hmm, I don't know if I'm ready to give up "Moon River" in my assigned position as Death. I love that tune, and the gentle way it has of putting across the death reminder works for me. I hold Death as a small mirror, and find meditation on the fact that this is a finite game welcome. But that's not always the case for sitters, so the message mixed with gentle delivery is a match.

I like "Paper Moon" for the moon card, for its mix of romance and delusion.
(Ella for me, but there's some who prefer Frank.)
