Can anyone identify this Symbol?

Milfoil

I've googled and more googled but nothing so far - perhaps I am looking in the wrong places.

It was given to me in answer to a question but I cannot find any reference to it.

I hope someone can help please.

Many thanks

Millie

It reminds me of an astrological sign, but I'm not sure, if it's that, or simular to one.

To me it seeems odd, since the t shape seems tilted. something...

Yes, it's Mercury, I do believe.

Well, no, it's not Mercury.

In the thread 'Our Mother Erzulie' on this forum Nuncle talks about just this symbol. It seems to have to do with the Haitian spirit Erzulie and her male counterpart Legba.

Dd the top part get cut off by the link (it looks as if the link cut the top portion of the symbol off). If the top part got cut off and it was suppose to be a circle that it's the symbol for Venus

Milfoil

No its not cut off - it looked like a cup on a stick with a slanted line across it.

For over 7 years I have been looking around to find this symbol or what it may mean in connection with the question I asked (which was about my ancestry).

I just may have found a possible answer. I think it is a Tamgha, a clan or family symbol from the Altai or Kazakh region.

There are so many and most are not known or understood (ie nobody knows which clan or family they belonged to) because the information has been lost over time but they exist carved into rocks, as marks on the bottom of pottery, on coins, jewelry and brand marks on animals. Essentially they were boundary markers and ownership marks.

I have a lot more research to do yet but it's quite exciting.

part of the fun is in the hunt, congratulations!

That is very interesting! Don't you just love how sometimes you get these cryptic messages which take a very long time to unravel. :)

Do you know much about mitochondrial DNA? There is research which suggests that people in Europe are ultimately descended from 7 women whose mitochondrial DNA exist in people of European descent. It's perfectly feasible that your ancestry links back to the kazakh region via one of these strands.
