Flaxen handed Shelley over to me in the Nosebag. And she (that's Shelley) immediately started eyeing my Florentine. When I ate it, she started flirting with PW's Patchwork deck. It's truly shocking what she gets up to... but it was nice for her to meet a peer; she wasn't keen on most of the decks we had brought to show each other.

Well, nobody was keen on some of them. })

Unfortunately my camera had a fever and was acting up, so although she walked the streets of Oxford with us, and led people astray in Hoyles, and made me buy her some books in the Oxfam bookshop, there is no official record of this.

After we ATers had parted company, Shelley came back to my mother's on the bus. She liked the bus, but when we got there, she was not happy with socialising (to be honest, nor was I...), and retired to bed with her books. I got one more photo out of the camera before the indicators all turned scarlet.

More tomorrow. Though she did not enjoy the idea of the M6 - the very thought made her ill, so we came back north by a circuitous route.

Hm. Shelley is being very supportive of me during a difficult time.... Yesterday she'd have liked to go out - but the weather wasn't up to it - she looked out of the window a lot, but she didn't make a fuss about it, like Frankie did :D. Then some **** hit the fan, and she was lovely to me, bless her. Sat quietly on my desk while I tried to sort stuff out. And failed.

She watched Eastenders - which amused her muchly, and yesterday (Tuesday) she also got up close and personal with some of my decks - made a particular friend or two. (Photo is further down the thread, as I slipped up !)

Today, though was the highlight of her visit so far. My new wand arrived - made for me by Lillie. Shelley likes it a LOT. She snuggled up under it, and wants you all to look PARTICULARLY at the cat on there :D (in the next post !)

I've promised her Tescos tomorrow, after my blood tests - so I can walk her up to Hexham Abbey and stuff... She thinks I should avoid fielding my mother's phone call anyway;)

(OH - yes, pix will follow when I find the cord to upload them from this camera !)

ETA and here they are.

Here's the cat !

Shelley carefully examined my car, and also the camper van. And she took a quick look around the yard.

And then on to the doctor’s office, on the way to Tescos. Shelley got very excited about the thought of Tescos. Frankie was mad for supermarkets, you may all recall.

When we got to Haltwhistle, Shelley saw a sign that shocked her greatly.

"No it ISN'T," she said firmly. "Shh," we said. "You might upset someone." "But it ISN'T"....

After we parked in fabulous downtown, we walked up the hill, where she saw a jackdaw feather, and I had to pick it up for her. Then she saw a whole load more, so my purse was full of them.

When we got there, she liked the automated arrival system, and chortled when I had to put in my date of birth. “I didn’t know you were THAT old,” she said….

She wanted to watch while they took my blood, but I thought she might frighten the nurse, who was young and innocent. But when we left, things got interesting. She really is a bit ghoulish, and wanted to Get Involved, but I told her she might make things worse.

"Like your mother?" she asked.

"Just like my mother."

"Oh - OK - fair enough."

So we went on to Tescos. In the car park, she was briefly alarmed by a Sign, but we calmed her down, and went into town.

(And she just pointed out (somehow !) that I left out the pic of her with her New Friends.... here it is - late !)

We went into Hexham, where she quite liked the Abbey from a distance, and the Queen’s Hall. She saw a wrought iron fence draped with what she said were silly flags. “I really only like black flags with white roses on”, she said – "but you’d better take my photo with these…”

Then we went into the park, as we heard music. “Is that your choir ?” she asked. “I don’t know”, I said; “I haven’t been in it this term.”

“Well, we’d better go see.”

So we did. JUST as we got there they stopped singing. We took a picture just as a woman said “I want some volunteers.” Then she said “I do love how you all volunteer before I even tell you what for…”

“We have to get out of here,” said Shelley.

So - on to the Abbey. Frankie had apparently told her he rather liked it, so we had to go in.

Shelley made a beeline for DEATH. It seems Frankie had told her she had to look at it. She wasn't a bit interested in the Roman Soldier though. She liked the two unknown 14th century women much better. And a painting that she says is of her. I don't think so. She also had a good look at some rather fine carvings.

I wanted to show her a shop I rather like, so on we went. Shelley got so excited looking in the window that we had to go in and meet the owner, who was very impressed to hear all about her. Shelley fanned herself out on the counter and demanded that the poor woman have her photo taken (the owner's name, by the way, is Mary, which we both thought was serendipitous :D) and when we left she snuggled up to me. "SHE thought I was GREAT, didn't she," she said smugly.

"Don't you get conceited," I said. "It's BAD for a tarot deck to get above itself."

She sulked a bit till we got to the market place and met SO, who agreed to hold her up to the sign Frankie had also met. Then we went on past the most beautiful Poundstretcher in the country (unless you know different) and into Cafe Nero for a coffee.

"No Florentines ?" she said, sadly...

We wandered back to Tescos - which by the way bored her, and she said she couldn't see why Frankie liked supermarkets so much.

"MEN," she said dismissively.

She said she wanted to see the horses outside Fat Giraffe, as she knew they were on the way. "Oh OK already," we said. BUT - there weren't any horses.

"This is an INSULT to MOI", said Shelley, "but take my photo anyway, to show I tried."

So we did. Two. One for the record and one to indicate how she FELT about it all.

Shelley's next outing was to Aydon. We hadn't time to take her all the way to Long Meg, so....

She liked it a lot - though she did develop an unhealthy interest in the toilet arrangements - especially the outflow system, which shocked her rather.

She also took a fancy to a cast iron fireplace, which she astutely pointed out was just like the one we had sat next to in Cafe Nero.
