Sweet Dreams & Herbs

Fulgour

I've been reading "The Gypsy Dreambook" by Sergius Golowin
and there is a chapter on the history of herbal remedies with
an emphasis on dream enhancement, including herbal choices
such as Melissa (Lemon Balm) ~ and I'm not very confident I
understand much at all...there are quite a few mentioned but
asking here seems like a good idea, a very-very good idea....

Any suggestions and insights for Sweet Dreams? ~Thanks! :)

Psychic Dream tea vs. Insomnia tea...

Dear Fulgour,

I am happy to share with you some herbal tea recipes:

for psychic dreams, MUGWORT is excellent... though it can be a bit strange at first, and it tastes VERY bitter...

a basic relaxing evening dream tea is
chamomile
licorice

or relaxing, refreshing evening dream tea
chamomile
peppermint
licorice

you can also use this as a base for the mugwort dream tea:
3 parts chamomile
1 part peppermint
1 part licorice
1/2 part mugwort (or more to taste, but it is very strong)

other herbs which can be mixed in for the evening tea:
passionflower
hops
verbena
valerian

i would not combine valerian and mugwort--
for clarity of dreams, you want to be able to remember your dreams accurately, and valerian personally knocks me out

if you have terrible insomnia and have not been dreaming,
then i might recommend a valerian/mugwort half and half mix as the active ingredient in a basic evening tea blend of chamomile, licorice and peppermint...

ok, loves, goodluck and happy dreaming!

sincerely,
serendipity

hi serenaserendipity

Melissa (Lemon Balm) is still what is 'attracting' me...
among the various suggestions in the book it seemed
to stand out ~ and aren't the capsules just as good?

thanks for the tips!

lemon balm is good for depression and herpes

dear fulgour,
lemon balm is good for depression and herpes...

capsules are NOT as good...
because part of its magic is in its essential oil, fragrance--
and the spirit of the plant is more blossoming in a wet form than a dry one...

for example, boiling water + dry herb= releases medicine and essential oil
dry herb+ stomach bile= disintegrates herb

but you could chew the raw leaf and it might be as helpful as tea, though i don't know how good it would taste...

let me know how your lemon balm tea goes!
sincerely,
serendipity

I'm learning a lot, but obviously have a ways to go!

Re: Melissa
The Gypsy Dream Book references:
J.T.Tabernaemontanus
New Complete Book on Herbs
Frankfort 1614

Serius Golowin :) writes that Melissa was being used
to treat fear, depression, melancholy, anger, panic...
I guess that isn't exactly "Sweet Dreams" territory..?

Other items mentioned in the book are:
Ox tongue (Anchusa officinalis)
Borage
White Poplar buds

I made some tea (hot!) last night, which had:

Chamomile Flowers
Hibiscus Flowers
Peppermint Leaves
Rose Blossoms
Spearmint Leaves
Orange Blossoms

And I can report that I slept well, and dreamt
of colours... not just in colour ~ about colour.

One part had giant Oreo cookies with b-l-u-e
wafers (carved with a cameo head, hehehehe)
another part had "Tiger Lily" which wasn't.....
it was way more of a "glowing burnt orange!"

*:p* Wow!

Some more suggestions

Another way to enhance sweet or clairvoyant dreams is burning a bit sweet grass in your room before you go to bed.

You can also rub either mugwort oil or sweet grass oil on your Third Eye before going to sleep.

Fulgour

hi catlin

The Gypsy Dreambook talks about the importance
(and desirablity) of aroma-esque enhancements!
I'll see if I can sort them out later on and post...

Mugwort :) Tea is on it's way too! and not from
anyplace too fancy, but an independent grower.

goodluck with your mugwort, fulgour dear

remember just a pinch is good to enhance dreams

too much is very bitter!

especially if you had such special dreams just from chamomile and orange blossom!

happy dreaming--

sincerely,
serendipity
