dummies guide to the thoth tarot

Minotauro

Which deck will you get first? Liber T or Thoth? Liber T can easily be used with Thoth books so I'd also recommend Duquette's book but I'm also reading through The Book of Thoth, although it's still not an easy read LOL.

LOL X) yes my plan was to bget both and study and compare and analyze them both etc. I figured because the liber t. has ilustrated minors , I'll use the guide of that deck provided by ahm... I cant remember the name of the person who made the guide but somebody here made one , and styudy them both , Im not even sure XD I'll cross that bridge hen I get there lol =P

I have the past 2 yrs have had the THOTH deck,

most of those years were spent in my trucnk with the rest of my deck collection, Then as time past in my quest of understanding the thoth besides the LWB, I purchased Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo Duquette, yes this book was of great importance in learning the thoth however it still left me with many questions unanswered, due to it kept refering back to the book of THOTH, which I then purchased, this book then only added more to the confusion of understanding the thoth, I download the book T which still left me in the dark so to speak, then yesterday in my travels of second hand book stores I came across this book

THE CROWLEY TAROT the handbook to the cards - by Akron-Hajo Banzhaf printed in 1995 by US games Sytems inc.

NOw The THOTH deck totally makes sense.

These three books are a must have IMO when you start with the THOTH
Book of THOTH
Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo Duquette
THE CROWLEY TAROT - The handbook to the cards

read book 2 first on each card - Understanding Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo Duquette
Then read The Crowley tarot on each card
Then read the BOOK of THOTH

and you will have much success with the thoth.
Hope this has helped

this guy on Youtube is a reader who does a lot of videos on the Thoth deck - in depth explanations, history etc, very helpful. The above link takes you to his page where the videos are listed. Some are just on tarot in general, but as you page thru them you'll see that many are on Thoth. If the link won't work or you can't find the videos from the link, just go to YT and search for PaulHughesBarlow. Hope this is helpful.

as I am fairly new to the Thoth tarot, I wouldn't know how good these videos are ...it would be great if someone here who is very knowledgable on Thoth could watch a few of them and let us know if they are worth the time to see and learn from.

Well to be truly honest from both ends of the spectrum, the videos not particularly good for newbies with thoth, He'll basically tell you what is already written on each of the cards in the book of thoth and others, he doesn't expand as I would liked to get a grip on the deck, as far as learning how to read them via the elements, and different spread sure those are a good watch. he has a video on how to do the counting ( spread). but as far as the deck and cards them self your better off with the books I've listed and read what ever other book of Crowley work you want to learn. for a good book when your first starting out on Cabala that I found that works great with this deck is

TAROT and INDIVIDUATION - A Jungian study of correspondences with Cabala, Alchemy, Astrology, and the Chakras.

Excellento I must say, However The book only focuses on the Major Arcana, but the information you get from that and the understanding and applying it with the THOTH and the rest of his books/work. amazing perfect match.

Another book that has extensive commentary on the Thoth tarot (and the Golden Dawn tarot - painted by Wang from Regardie's copy, not "Liber T" - the Rider Waite tarot and the Tarot de Marseille) is Robert Wang's "Qabalistic Tarot." It goes deeply into the symbolism of the cards, drawing detailed parallels between the decks of Crowley, Waite and their Golden Dawn progenitor. One of my all-time favorites on the esoteric influence of the GD on modern tarot.
