When does the "Death" card mean an actual Death?

tarotbear

In My Humble Opinion (IMHO) The Death Card 'NEVER' means Death, and also IMHO there is no one set way that 'If such-and-such lines up with so-and-so, then the Death cards means you are gonna die.'

Have I seen death in the cards? Yes, I have - but it was not the Death card that told me so. I was doing a reading for a terminal cancer patient and the future cards were all rosy and cozy and there was no way in hell this person was suddenly going to have a visitation from God or any miraculous interventions were going to happen...they were going to be freed from the cycles of pain and illness and treatments because they were going to die - the only way those visions of comfort were going to happen. They died 10 days later.

there is a wonderful thread from the past on here where people posted their combinations which meant death! it was really interesting. I don't think any card on it's own can mean actual death unless you really feel intuitively that is right.

ooh found it - http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=173550
there is many other threads on here as well with people's combinations. its quite fascinating to read all the different ways it could come up. You mostly realise it afterwards though :(

Thanks Danieljuk

A very interesting thread, there was so many combinations that can be read with the
death card.

Of course the death card can mean death ... it is self evident .... what sort of death (real or figurative) depends on aspects in the reading.

Of course the only way to be sure is if the person dies soon afterwards.

In one case, one of my clients did ... I cant remember all the reading but; Death in self position, 5 discs in environment, 10 swords in (I think) the 'underworld' position ... basically all the tough cards in bad aspects ... there was a 'good' one - in the past position.

***Death kills, its a disease that has no cure, everyday we are all facing death, its all around us, its an important part of life.

I was thinking the same thing.

It's odd that when I did do readings and the people I was reading about either died soon after, was expected or about why someone died, Death has never come up.

I actually find it funny when other readers say the Death card ''Does Not Mean Death...
then why name a specifically named Tarot card that?

Of course it does not always mean death will happen in a reading but a significant change in life or a new chapter is about to happen to a persons life? but i know from my own experience that it will foretell death has a warning sign?

I believe the original post asks 'when does the Death card mean that you or someone IS ACTUALLY GOING TO DIE'; not some abstract philosophical discussion on man's fate in the cosmos, challenges to face, or past indiscretions or lack of foresight.

If the Death card appearing meant that the Querent was ABSOLUTELY going to die within a short period of time - then there would be an awful lot of dead Querents and Readers in the world, STAR* and ravenest! :p

The envelope you received from Publisher's Clearinghouse says YOU HAVE WON ONE MILLION DOLLARS - did you? :D

Okay but how did you know the person would die?
I didnt know... When I pulled this card during the reading what I saw in the picture was someone rising to heaven and I said it out loud, "looks like someone is ascending to heaven". Never saw that card that way before (Legacy deck by Ciro). The woman I was reading for broke down and cried, and told me her father was ill, and was not exected to make it through the week. I posted it here on AT when it happened and asked if anyone else had ever seen this card in that way. An intuitive read, world is an ending, ready to start a new journey.

:D

And if the Lovers card came up along side the Death card then there would be alot of single people walking around? i just think the original post wanted a specific sign on when to tell someone that a Death would ACTUALLY happen?

I think reading everyone else's experience when reading along side other cards have proved when such timings would happen?

In my very, humble opinion, I totally agree with TB on this, I do not believe for one moment that it literally means that someone is going to actually die, regardless of the surrounding cards...that amounts to a definite prediction, similar to fortune telling, and as we all know, Tarot is not about that!
