'Recycled' art in Dame Darcy deck

ldiddy

What if I make the 50 Shades of Mermaids deck and add bondage gear?

Might want to go with 78 shades ;)

I don't know if DD has been informed. I have to imagine word is on its way to her if she is not already aware....

I see she's on Twitter. I'm tempted to ask if her ears are burning.

I know Riccardo from LoS is active on here occasionally, I wonder if he would be interested in commenting as well.

Dame Darcy has been a professional(ish) artist since the early 90's when her Meatcake comic was popular. She has done book covers and illustrations for a major publisher. She is hardly just getting started and should know better.

This thread is still going huh...

Maybe a deal could be struck with LoScar to remedy this situation. Give the original artist line art credit and LoScar will publish the DD Mermaid deck to make up for lost profits.

I PMd Ric ages ago about this. He hasn't answered (and he is an IRL mate) so I imagine they aren't overly concerned. If he answers I will let you all know. For all we know she DID ask them.

Why do that - why not ask her politely if she has seen this thread ? "Are your ears burning" questions are the kind of thing that inflames the internet.

I can't see LoS publishing Dame Darcy's - it's not their kind of line.

If you are in the "Big Deal camp," why would you have PM'd Ric? Also, aren't they Ciro's publisher too? I am surprised that you feel they would laugh off plagiarism.

(It is in another message re Pietro Alligo: "Yes, he still is - that is fairly well known. He's delightful. And yes, Mauro works with them.

Actually I am betting Pietro would be mildly amused. I might ask him....")

I agree that they seem to publish more artistic decks.

I would assume DD knows about the situation :) Or is there some psychiatric disorder such as sleep tracing? (Probably.) Or she can just read a blog as the information seems to be allowed to flow one way. No reason to come here to see what happened.

As to the other situation, I'm not sure what you wanted the publisher to do other than issuing the "Cease and Desist." I am guessing, but I presume it would have been costly to attempt legal proceedings in a foreign country to defend the copyright on a deck that has probably ceased making a profit long ago. Again, not a lawyer so I may be wrong there but they didn't do more so it seems likely. However they did take action. All countries are not alike, let me say. The US has some stricter rules than other countries on book copyrights.

Lo Scarabeo have never published Ciro's work.

I am less concerned than some here, but I didn't say it was AOK, and I do also think LoS would be less upset than - say - USG.

I PMd Ric as I thought it was only courteous. I would have done so even if I were 100% OK with it myself, as very many who are posting are not OK with it, and they should be made aware. I have no idea what DD thinks of it and I don't do twitter either - but if someone wants to tweet her, I do think a polite tweet would be better - and potentially more use to anyone - than "hey are your ears burning ?". That's almost calculated to tick the recipient off.

LoS do publish fun decks too - but I would say that this particular one wouldn't be a good fit for them. I could be WAY wrong.

ETA as to the other - we let them know. As I have done here too. I thought it was their right to be informed - and the plagiarism there was FAR more extreme. What they - or anyone else - chooses to do in these situations is not about what I want, but about what THEY want.

Apparently it is that the Gilded was published by Llewellyn and also that one digital image is looking like another to me which I hate to admit....and disturbs me too. Perhaps I'm just not that familiar with them.
