One problem I see with modern education is that too often it teaches students to simply "open up and swallow, no chewing required, and then just regurgitate it for the test." Critical thinking seems to be too cumbersome for the modern mind when the average attention span has been reduced to the length of a tweet.

This is a poll I can't really respond to directly, as my reasons for not contributing to threads that interest me are usually none of the above.

Generally speaking, I stop participating:

1) when I am swamped with work or just otherwise busy elsewhere (it happens, as you can imagine)

2) when I'm depressed (for reasons that never have to do with the content of any thread, or for no reason at all, as most depressives can tell you)

3) when my responses go repeatedly misunderstood or just unread, and I decide not to bother.

4) scarf?

Indeed!
Critical thinking or "self knowledge" was the way to wisdom, if one was to allow it.
The pursuit of knowledge or "open up and swallow" in Barley terms was in his eyes a form of ignorance.

A very old debate BarleyWine.

To make my post on subject, I dont reply to threads because the subject doesnt interest me or because Im too busy.
When replying means that I will have to come back for more interaction I make the conscious decision to refrain from commenting in the first place.
Like I did with this thread really until Lefanu made it interesting to me!

Long threads I find interesting when different points of view have been offered.
It helps with critical thinking.

A lot of the time though Im happier reading than posting.

Barleywine it happened to me also, and I was sad not receive responses.

See threads:

this one had 223 views:

but no one had anything to say about it...

Those seem like rather obscure decks. I know I couldn't have commented without seeing the deck, and I didn't notice whether you posted a scan of the card(s) in question. If I see a scan and understand the topic well enough, I will often respond, especially if the question is more specific like yours, and not just "What does this card mean?"

Not the case where I'm from.

Oh I see. I didn't think about posting pictures. Thank you for the advice!

Alternatively, you might include in your post a link to a website that shows some cards, or the Aeclectic page for that deck if there is one. :)
