awful periods

cheekyminx

Aww you guys, well gals are great :D Thanks so much for the advice and for sharing your experiences.

Once I find out what days I have off work, hopefully I can book into see my doctors next week and the week after *crosses fingers* makes it hard as I find out 4-5 days before the start of the week what days I'm rostered on. I'm sure it will all work out, I have faith in the universe ;)

Thanks again

I like the sound of those sea sponge tampons.

Ya, and you can have sex while they're in, as well. So the men may like that fact;)

Just sew or tie a piece of non-waxed dental floss in them, for easier removal.

Let me know what you think if you try them.

PS: I don't mean to hijack this thread from cheeky...yet it's kinda taken off..and I'm more curious about The Mooncup. It looks.....like you can really feel it, and bulky/uncomfortable....??

Not if you put it in right. I know it looks like a solid object but its made from medical grade silicone- soft and quite 'squishy'. You 'squish' it down into one of two folds (one of the folds is described here http://www.mooncup.co.uk/menstrual_cup_how_to_use.html) so its small enough to insert, once its 'in' it sort of 'opens' back into the cup shape and is worn much lower down than a tampon, really low down in fact. I never can feel it once its there. Its also advised that you insert in after rinsing in water, without drying, it makes things easier! I'm not sure how it stays there actually- some sort of mix of magic muscles and the cup forming a 'seal'.

No you can't feel it at all once it's in, it just takes a bit of practice to get it in correctly but once you've got the knack it's brilliant. I've cut the stem off mine and I love it.
I think I'll stick with the mooncup as those sponge sea pearls only last a few months so in effect they're still disposable. With the mooncup there is no impact on the environment at all.
They sound better than tampons though :)
The sex thing isn't really an incentive for me, I don't usually feel much like having sex when I'm in the middle of a period ;)

My dear Cheeky, you poor love :( I don't know why it's taken me this long to see this thread but anyways, I am so glad I found it! My moon-time was a horrendous experience from my very first time but has settled done somewhat since having my second daughter (10 yrs ago), thank the Goddess cos quite frankly it gave me the shits!!! Unfortunately, while the pain and heaviness subsided the moods and severity of them increased, drastically :( I, (and I don't know why it took so bloody long for me to think about it?), eventually got myself to see a Naturopath, well I call her my 'Angel'... she has helped me so much! Admittedly the potion that I have to drink 3 x's a day is not tastey :)rolleyes: to say the least) but it bloody-well works! I am well older than you but my periods are only 5 days long now, with the first 48 hrs being the heaviest, no pain what-so-ever and the best part is my moods have *chilled* much to the relief of my partner and kids...

I haven't read all the posts and I am sure someone here has alreay given advice on seeing a Naturopath, and I would highly recommend it!

I am very interested in these Mooncups, what an excellant idea in so many ways :) Does anybody know if these are available in Australia?

Best of Luck to you Cheeky, I hope you find help and relief real soon.

I found this site for The Keeper in Australia: http://www.keeper.com.au/
and this one: http://www.moonpads.com.au/keeper.html

Wemoon is an Australian company that makes sanitary pads (I have some of their pads, they're excellent) so they may also know where you can get menstrual cups from in Aus: http://www.wemoon.com.au/

If you prefer a Mooncup then I'm sure that you could buy one from the UK site and they'll send it to you: http://www.mooncup.co.uk/index.html

You could also try ebay as there are ebay shops that sell them.
They're available in chemists such as Boots now in the UK.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking of ordering the Mooncup off of its site: mooncup.com (I live in the USA).

I'll get the silcone one, I think. That's gotta be strange, that it inserts really low like that? The suction thing kinda scares me for some reason, but I'm sure it's really safe and all....

Thanks for this great thread and info!

Star: What's the 'potion' made with you drink?

If you're in the US, the Diva Cup might be easier to find- that's what I use. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it works beautifully. I trimmed the stem of mine, and it is so much more comfortable. Here's their website.

I got mine at the local co-op.
