Intensive Deck Study - Newly Started

Emily

I've done my first card, the Coyote - Fool with the Animal Wise. I've really enjoyed doing it, never done a card like that before but it felt right. I'm going to post in the tarot cards section because there isn't a study thread for this deck. I'll post the link once I've done it. :)

I read your post in the Study Groups forum. It looks as if you are off to a great start. I will add comments to your posts when I have finished my IDS. This is a deck that I want to study more also.

Vision Quest

I have decided to postpone my study of the court cards until the end of the study. I have started on another suit, Water, and have posted threads in the Study Groups forum.

This deck is very easy for me to study, as the cards just "speak" to me. I don't have to "search" for meanings. The minor arcana cards 1-10 are so easy to understand. I have only had one problem area, and it wasn't in understanding the card, but in symbolism.

Here are the links to Ace of Water and Two of Water , Three of Water my latest postings.

Nice job Soaring Eagle and Emily! I have been reading your posts as well. Just been busy updating today. I'll comment soon :D I am also thinking about the Vision Quest Tarot myself. I'm glad you guys are really connecting with your decks!

I have the fool through the empress done so far. I feel like I'm a slacker compared to Soaring Eagle over there :p. The links are all in the study group:

The Empress intuitive story was interesting...

It's not my intention to make anyone feel like a "slacker". It's just that I had started my IDS, unoficially before posting this thread. I am right now re-assessing each card. I want to really look at each card, but as I am classified as "ADHD" (something I don't believe in) I do have a hard time sticking to ONE thing for an entire day. I couldn't study one card for one entire day or one week as other groups do. For me, it is easier to study 3 or 4 cards in a day.

I have lots of free time sitting at my computer all day long. I have video gaming machines for the kids to play, and I sell school supplies and candies, but other than that I don't work. I don't consider it a job, as I enjoy kids, the more the merrier. The cost of living is much cheaper here in Mexico than in the US, so with my husband working I can pay for internet and keep busy "learning", whether it's tarot, herbs, astrology, or other things I find of interest.

I highly recommend this deck, especially if you want a native american deck. I couldn't get into the other NA decks out there. This deck, with it's variety of nations represented is great. The court cards in Fire are from the NW, Water I think is from the SW - I don't recognize the headwear worn by the Daughter and Mother, Air is Plains, Earth is Mexico. You get things from Alaska to Mexico, it's not one nation, and the people are people. One deck that I looked at before the people didn't have expressions and were poorly designed. This deck is very "alive" it "speaks" (at least to me it does) making it very easy to read with.

Prince of Swords- Maat tarot

Great posts guys- Ivy, your empress post cracked me UP! :D

Soaring Eagle- I did comment on your one post, the 3 of cups, as to why the people may have been hidden- let me know what you think.

So- for me, today's card was the Prince of Swords and I have the link to the full write-up here: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?p=2901501#post2901501

This was a very aggressive card, and very emotive. The great thing about today is that my daughter has decided to join me in her own IDS since she recently stole my new Gods & Titans and Goddesses & Sirens decks :) So, we sat and did our IDS together, while we spoke of the traditional meanings of cards, book meanings, intuitive meanings and how to listen to the cards during a reading. It made today's work very special- as I used this card to show her how I did my IDS. And since it is so vibrant with emotion, she was able to pick it up quickly and use this system for her own deck.

As an aside, I have completely and totally fallen in love with my Maat tarot and see that this will be one of my main decks for use when I am finished. This deck is absolutely amazing and rich in symbolism, emotion and power. Hope you guys find the postings interesting- as I have found yours! :)

Thank you. I liked your comment on privacy, I will have to think on this card a little more.

It's great that you can connect with your deck. I looked at your post and at the picture linked, this is not a deck I could use comfortably. It's a little "too much" for me, but everyone is different. Who knows maybe later down the road I just may end up using this deck.

I also think it's great that you were studying with your daughter. Why doesn't she join in the discussion, or is she underage? It's nice to have someone physically there that you can study with. I wish there was someone near me, but unfortunately I study alone physically. I find it interesting to study with others here in the IDS.

Everyone is doing great!!!

She is only 14, so still underage :) But she is excited about being a part of the IDS- even without posting as I am here to do it with her.

Almost the first week over, so here is an update, I am really enjoying my IDS, probably more than I thought I would. I have managed to do all my daily draws and journaling, Im am spending more time with individual cards, which is helping me a lot, I am seeing more and more detail in each card and I am enjoying researching the symbolism.

I have not done any 3-5 card spreads this week and I have not really done much work from the book I am working with (psychic tarot) so next week I will try to include these tasks in my studies.

That is great!!! Keep up the good work. I was just wondering where you had been, as you have not posted, and then here you are.

Don't feel bad about doing any readings. I haven't done any either this week. Hopefully tomorrow, but I'll have to see how my day goes.
