When I was a member of another Tarot group, we were discussing disclaimers, and this is the tongue-in-cheek one that I wrote.... Just thought I'd share!

"Please be informed that I cannot be held responsible for any
fatalities of either you, any of your relations, colleagues, or
acquaintances as a result of information given during this reading,
nor for any accidents, mishaps, gambling losses, or broken limbs
happening either to you or any of the aforementioned.

I will not be held responsible for unfortunate acts of fate, God,
Goddess, (or any deity of your choice) or random unforeseen incidents
which happen to us all; (such as you, your daughter, your dog falling
pregnant, your house subsiding into a ravine, the bin men failing to
collect your rubbish, British Rail industrial actions, etc.etc.etc. )

Any subsequent lawsuits, litigations, or legal proceedings which may
occur on your behalf (due your careless, clumsy, and wilful expression
of your own personal free will) which are directed toward myself and
my meagre material possessions will result in you, your descendants,
and your solicitor being hexed so badly you will most definitely rue
the day you ever heard the word "Tarot".

Hehe...love it, Elnor!

This might be a good place to mention that how you word your reading (if it is an online one in writing, in particular) is something to look at, as well. Instead of stating "This Will Happen", say that the energies suggest that this May happen, or something like that.

Just came to my mind as I was reading along...

I had a wonderful laugh! But no, I wouldn't use such a thing. I'm guessing I'm either too serious, or it's because I just can't claim the power to hex people :D

I spoke to a lawyer here in Canada who couldn't come up with any reason why we could be sued.

Of course if your client gets a smarter lawyer you could b in trouble.

You could make a little sign that says "For Entertainment Purposes Only" and put it on your table.

This is the best advise. I agree.

In working retail and having store promotions (through the years) we had to write things like this, on give aways and drawings to cover Coporate America's butt. So I am sure it will cover yours.

And I seriously doubt anyone would try and sue you. But for all the crazy's out there, a sign is good.

I wouldn't have a clue as to what our laws are in regards to this.

And i agree, your reading was shocking, what a terrible sh***y thing for someone to pass off as a reading.

Pao - What a horrible experience for you. That sort of reading would put many people off ever having another tarot reading. I do hope you told all your friends to avoid these readers who were so horrible.

Elnor - Great stuff! :D

I quote from the reading ethics page on my website:

I will provide a client with my opinion and advice on any possible course of action, but I cannot make my client’s decisions for them. Clients are solely responsible for any decision they make or any course of action they take. Advice from anywhere that goes against your inner feelings should be met with scepticism.

I'm always telling my clients that they have to make their own decisions - and that includes what is good and what is bad.

I see it as my job to show them their options - it's up to them to make their choices.

If they make their own choices they cannot come back to claim compensation from me for bad advice.

Liability insurance removes a multitude of worries for a professional.

It REALLY was horrible. I remember sitting there in complete disbelief but feeling scared. Thank god my friend was sitting with me bc I doubt anyone would believe this experience. I told everyone to stay away, she could cause more harm than good. I left there really freaked and scared at all the crap she said to me. How sad for the people that really need help and go to her completely voulnerable. :(
