new deck how to shuffle

star-lover

ive shuffled my new deck lots of times but the cards are still coming out in sequence

what is the best way to do this? swirl them like mad all over the place and mix them up?

ive done 2 readings with it now and because it was big cards and couldnt shuffle i chose the cards as pot luck (picking them at random) without the normal shuffle, cut 3 ways -btw seems to have worked though

i thought of the croupier method but didnt want to bend them

That's the way I have been doing it every time I get a new deck and readings work out fine!

I would be interested to know if someone else has a better suggestion ;)

thanks very much, i attach as much importance to intent and eagerness as to ritual or doing things the right way

the tarot is fluid and flexible i guess

still i would love to get my cards really mixed up lol

You can do that :D it's fun.

If, however, you're feeling more meditative, start by "dealing" the cards into five piles, then do it again and again till they're thoroughly mixed . . .

I always cut and shuffle an odd number of times - just to make sure I don't put the cards back into their original or close to original positions.

This is what I do with the Tarot of Dreams. It seems a little time-consuming but really it's faster because rather than sitting and shuffling over and over, you're going through the cards once.

It's a great way to spend time with a new deck, Griz and Thorhammer :D

I like to shuffle - I practice a technique of shuffling that Umbrae showed me at a fair. You split the cards and butt the ends of the cards together while holding the other ends between index finger and thumb of each hand. Then you twist your wrists up and outward and the cards riffle together going UP rather than falling down. It's a fun way to practice while mixing up a deck

I go through the deck and whenever I find two cards in sequence I take one and shove it into a random place in the deck.

Then when I have gone through the whole deck and I know that there are none in order I give them a good shuffle in case some of them want to get back in order.

just in case

I shuffle it like I would a playing card deck over and over and then I cut them and cut them and place them in and out over and over again...sometimes I make a few piles like the dealers do in the casinos and then shuffle them together this way and that way..... I do it with all of my new decks - although sometimes I mess them all around.... the T of Dreams is a tough one to shuffle! They don't bend.... My fingers are long and I can go over an octave on the piano but those cards are toughies!!! :D Love them though.

The croupier method is good to make your cards...get worn. ANd thus, eaier to shuffle, more comfortable to handle. It kinda 'breaks' the plastic lamination, but doesn't damage the cards.

But i'm not sure if it's good for a first-shuffling though. It doesn't put the cards in a really different order, unless they alreadu are like that.
