Opinions on channelled readings?

why would you channel a reading your more likely to speak then use cards if its channeled.

i don't understand why people say they have channeled people like Diana etc, it puts me off some mediums and channelers when they state they have been contacted by someone famous....what does being famous mean in spirit?

anyways rant over I am training in trance mediumship and this really bugs me when people say they are contacting elvis etc, whats he going to do...give you diet tips???
