Pentimento Tarot

BodhiSeed

From Joanna Powell Colbert's newsletter, it appears she's releasing a majors only tarot:

"I am happy to say that this new majors-only deck is now finished and ready to head off to the printer! I am calling it the Pentimento Tarot. “Pentimento” is an artist’s term for an underlying image in a painting that has been revealed as top layers of paint age and become transparent. In this deck, I embedded antique tarot cards and vintage photographs between layers of beeswax.

If all goes well, the new deck will be available in April!"

Well if it doesn't come out until April, you have over a month to talk yourself out of it.

Thanks for bringing this one up. I'm mostly completely over collage decks, but this is a bit different than the usual collage, isn't it. Plus, it has Visconti cards, so I might need it for that reason alone!

I'm not sure I could read with this (although it does resemble a bit the Tarot of the Wyrd, which reads very well for me).

But the art is simply exquisite. And I am mesmerized by those faces --people from all races and ages, instead of the usual model-type Caucasians, and so expressive.

I'm a pretty big fan of hers but I'm not feeling this one at the moment - and I have a lot of majors only. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Still trying to decide whether to go into Egypt with Julie Cuccia-Watts when I never wanted to before.

Thanks for the link. I HAD to preorder! :D

I'm not an artist myself, but I'm fascinated by the fact that she used beeswax as a medium for this deck. The artwork is gorgeous, I love the variety of models used, and I really like how images of RWS, Visconti, and Marseilles cards are used as part of the collages. Plus, the cards will be 4 X 6!!

I'm not happy with the fact that the postage cost to Canada is just a dollar less than the pre-order price for the deck, or I'd buy this in an instant. I have an American friend I could have it shipped to, but I'm now rethinking just how badly I want this deck. (I do like what she's doing here.)

Just received my Pentimento deck today! Enjoying the colors, artwork, and size of the cards. With the large card size, I am wishing the deck was borderless; the white borders are somewhat intrusive and make me feel like the images need more room to breathe. Other than that, I am loving the cards. :)
