your favorite spread?

Thetan

i just wonder which spread you all use to give a general reading to somebody.

firecatpickles

I use a 6-card

12
**65
34

  1. What is known
  2. What is unknown
  3. What you should do
  4. What you should not do
  5. The outcome should you heed the advice
  6. The outcome should you not heed the advice

Notice how the 2, 6 & 4 cards form a trio...

I like the Horseshoe--either 7-card or 14-card (a 7-carder with a second clarifying or background card in each position)

1....................7
...2..............6
......3...4...5

or, for the 14-card version:

1/2.................................13/14
....3/4......................11/12
..........5/6...7/8...9/10

1. Recent Past
2. Present Situation
3. Hopes and Fears
4. Environment (Outside Influences)
5. Lesson (or Gate)
6. Near Future
7. Further Future

Whiteroom

With never having any training or read any manuals the only spread I've used is 16 cards, in a square 4 by 4. The lines relate to past, present, immediate future and future, then I usually read the rows down as people or events.

I also use oracle cards along side the tarot as just confirmation and words of wisdom.

I like this one that MeeWah created ages ago. It is shaped like an arrow.

1. Spiritual influences (dreams, guides, acts of spirit).
2. Spiritual influences (stronger of the two).
3. Outside influences (work, other people, events, authority)
4. Present situation
5. Conscious goal; desire
6. Unconscious goal
7. Outcome

For myself as a 'quick check', and sometimes for others, I use this one invented by lark (and for which she won a prize, a copy of the LE Gilded)
lark said:
1. Work- This card gives you a peek into your workday. Stay at
home or out in the world it shows the joys or challenges
you might face today.

2. Home- This card shows your home life. Moods of husband,
children, pets. Visitors, deliveries, events. Anything
that happens in and around the home.

3. Unexpected- Just that, those little surprises life throws you
just to keep things interesting.

4. My role- This card usually very accurately predicts my mood,
action, or reaction to things that go on in my day.

5. Outcome- The outcome of my day if I follow on the path as it's
spread out before me. Of course I always have the
choice to change my mood or action to alter the
outcome for the better or worse. This card also
often predicts a lesson learned or an inner
spiritual revelation.

I lay this spread out in a cross shape with the outcome card in the middle. Position 1 on the left. 2 on the right. 3 on top 4 on the bottom.

Chronata

My favorite general spread is the first I ever created...ages ago...

I also really like Majecot's take on the three card spread...

which I call the "Bus Schedule Spread"

first card is where you are
second card is where you need (or want) to be
third card is how you get there!

Tara2007

The one I use most is the Ankh Spread...I love it and use for many different types of questions. Here it is:

Meanings:

1. Essense of the situation
2. An attitude in the situation
3. A second attitude in the situation

4. A trigger for action/change

5. What is passing
6. What is rising
7. A surprising element
8. The hopes/fears in the situation
9. The outcome ( what I usually think of as the near future)

Layout:

...........5................

...........6................

3..........7................4

1...........8...............2

.............9...............

Wow Chronata....This is still another reason why I love Tarot...I am constantly amazed by the synchronicities and "coincidences" associated with learning to read...

I love this spread...and strangely enough, several days ago, I "created" one almost exactly like it! (Perhaps we were reading at the same time??) ;)

I was using a conventional 3-card, past-present-future layout and decided I needed more clarification. I drew one extra card and put it below the layout and then said, what the heck and drew 2 more. It then occurred to me to place 3 more above the original three. Like you, I realized I had a grid I could then read many ways...

However, being such a newbie, I am not as sophisticated in my reading technique, so I am totally THRILLED to read your thread!! Thank you, THANK YOU, for giving me a way to fully work with this!! Your thread is going right into my journal! This really makes me feel like my intuition is kicking into gear and helps to confirm the path I'm building...

It's an incredibly rich and multi-dimensional way of reading and I really encourage others to give it a try.
Blessings to you,
Sascha

Mine is also lark's special spread. I also do a simplified version which just is

1. Work-related
2. Home-related
3. Overall

But I think I prefer hers. Those are both daily. I don't know if I have a preference for other spreads. I like them to be around 5-7 cards but I'm often situation-specific.

a_shikhs

I usually do a 4 card general past present future outcome spread. Its quite simple and quick.
