Demeter and Persephone

faerylvr

I am trying something new... spreads based on mythology. This works well for me and I have used it for a number of others. Give it a try and let me know wha tyou think.

Demeter and Persephone Spread (by Faerylvr)

1…….3…..4 (bridge between 3 and 2)….2

1. Demeter

This is what is holding on to you to keep you safe and out of harm. It may be that this is not allowing you to grow or have the freedom you need, but it is done with your concern. Like Demeter and her desire to always keep Persephone close and away from harm. Her intentions were good, but her sheltering led to Persephone's naiveté and in some part to the need for Persephone to try and "escape".

2. Hades

This is what wants you, whether it is good for you and what you want or not. Sometimes this is a person, a feeling or an event. While we cannot control everything this is completely out of our control. This is Hades in the story, wanting someone so bad that he is willing to risk all to have her. In the end he is willing to compromise so that he can get what he wants but not make her so miserable she won't love him.

3. Persephone

This is you. Torn between the two spots, wanting to be what each of them want you to be. Again this could be a feeling or people or a situation that has a tough decision to be made. Persephone was able to live with the decisions made as she became aware that both worlds offered her things. Although she was torn between her mother and her husband she was able to work things out with both of them.

4. Pomegranate Seed

This is that which you know you shouldn't have but are tempted to take anyway. Like Persephone and her stay in the underwold. The pomegranate, which she knew she was not to eat the seed of, but which tempted her beyond her resistance, leading to her fate of 6 months above and 6 months in the underwold. This shows a compromise position for you.

That sounds like a great spread... I'll have to give that one a try and let you know how it goes??

Sounds great... thank you... I appreaciate the feedback!

I just tried this spread and used my faeries. It was so spot on in the reading. The faeries pointed out something to me that I could not continue to ignore.

Excellent spread, faerlvr.

Thank you thank you... I will be using it for the August round... I am thinking, as I create more from the Greek Myths (a project I am working on) about creating a downloadable PDF of spreads and maybe selling it... in the meantime...

I am very glad this worked for you. I appreciate the feedback.

This is a very nice spread.

I haven't read in awhile, but i think i'm going to use this one tomorrow.

I'm just going to put in my two cents, for whatever it's worth. I felt like the "pomegranate seed" place is less of a temptation, and more... of a sign of compromise? Do you know what I mean? That was my first instinct. I understand what you mean by temptation.

The pomegranate seeds, to me was a sort of compromise between Hades and Demeter.

Does that make sense?

I haven't done this spread yet, but am confused by the last position... wouldn't it be nicer to spread it out to two positions?

The pomegranate was what tempted her beyond endurance to eat something and in the end this causes something that is bad, because she had to stay in the underworld for at least some time. How is that a compromise? In an compromise you have a say in what your actions will be and the consequences...

So, should I read it as temptation and add something else in as Compromise, or should I read it as compromise but then it's not a temptation?

Or should the judgment of Zeus, who said that the little seed counted as food, count as the compromise? In which case, I feel it's not a compromise but more a Judgment... as neither Hades, nor Demeter nor Phersephone had a say in it.

This is why I have problems basing spreads on Myths, there is a lot too it, also with the underlying moral of listening to your mom, not doing what you shouldn't and not saying out late ;) to fold it into a Spread that is usable in most situations...

I'm a pest... sorry! Otherwise it looks rather nice.

It does. I agree... which is why the last sentence in the pomegranate seed was this was a compromise position.

Not a pest. In the end it is a compromise that Zeus comes up with. She is tempted by the seeds and they lead to the compromise that happens. Persephone herself doesn't feel that it is a bad compromise, it is Demeter, that which is holding back that doesn't like it, which is why I put it as the bridge. It is a temptation, she wasn't supposed to eat anything, but this temptation leads to the compromise that was in the end decided upon. Did this clear it up? She did have a say, first by taking the temptation and second by not fighting the decision in the end. While Demeter doesn't like the decision, it is accepted by Persephone.
