Ok, can anyone help me here...

There is an old copy of the Ancestral Path Tarot in my local shop. It isn´t a deck I like particularly, but Im thinking of buying it from the collecting point of view. Ive got a hunch that this is going to go up in value and there is a copy sitting in a dusty cabinet in my local shop. Not particularly expensive either.

I really feel I should buy it. Ive done a search here and see that most posts about the Ancestral Path are in the Trading forum; everyone trying to get rid of their copy after finding it too culturally busy, and not connecting with it.

As I say, there is no point trying to dissuade me of the art because I don´t really like it (but am prepared to be pleasantly surprised). That Fool card has to be one of the most hideous ever.

But somehow, I feel I should buy it as I feel it is going to be collectible. Or is it?

OK, I adore the Fey because I can read with it and always have been able to. So I am in a good position to point out why people might NOT like it:

You might get irritated with the way it twists RWS meanings in a sometimes Pollyanna-ish or sometimes jokey way. Who wants a 5 of Cups where there is actual enjoyment of the broken cup? Or a 5 of Pents where the main characters are warm and cozy and happy? Or a Queen of Pentacles who looks cheeky rather than practical?

It is kind of cartoon-y in a pretend Japanese-ish way.

Some people HATE the 8 of Swords because the main character looks so drippy and victim-like and posed and kind of S&M. Bit of a porn vibe.

You might hate the RWS and its clones.

You might prefer more serious decks. You might not appreciate the deck making fun of you when you are feeling down, like someone laughing at your deeply held convictions and problems AS IF you are over-dramatising things and fussing. (As if you would. It's SERIOUS I tell you.) You may also hate being shown your faults which are then laughed at.

To my knowledge no-one has ever been able to read with it without the book and an extremely good knowlege of the RWS.

Which kind of defeats the whole point.

It's pretty yet worthless. It is also guilt inducing since it sits on the shelf accusing you of not appreciating it more. It's a spoilt princess of a deck.

See, it's weird. The Fey just fits with my mind somehow.

But that's MY mind. I just find it very transparent and obvious somehow. (The deck, not my mind... but then....)

(not sure what this says about me...) So unless you ARE me, don't get one.

I'd like to be ABLE to read the AD, but it is just pretty and that's it. So don't bother. Because lots of people feel that way.
