What I've taken away from this is a better appreciation of the Book as "discovery" rather than "concealment." Not long ago I was reading Rachel Pollack's companion book to the Burning Serpent deck, and she mentioned that some decks show the Book as open, while others show it as closed, implying that one reveals its contents and the other keeps it hidden. I think - at least in this case - I like the idea of imparting knowledge better than withholding it, recognizing that either one is possible with this card.

I completely agree with you. I actually think I used the term 'an open book' in my OP although I didn't connect it correctly with the other cards initially. In my deck, Book is indeed open so perhaps like a tarot deck differs in imagery I guess this does also matter with Lenormand. Thanks everyone for a very interesting discussion of the cards! <3
