Lark's New Deck Reading

This post was originally made by lark back in February...

Eventually, lark finally gave in to my incessant whining and pleading for her to post her experience of reading with the Gilded Tarot for the first time...

I remember reading this post and feeling as though I were sitting and watching her interact with the cards. Her detailed account was both exciting and moving to read....

Unfortunately, this post was somehow deleted from the Gilded thread, but I had kept a copy of it and would like to share it with you now.....

I hope you all enjoy lark's beautiful words as much as I did!

(lark's original post was much prettier, by the way...with little icons to go with each card in the reading....:D )

1. What will you teach me? Three of Cups

A beautiful card...three maidens dancing in a rose-colored sky above 3 golden cups filled with water. A special bonding will take place between us, a happy friendship will form. Winning this deck was a cause for celebration and it will teach me to appreciate all the wonderful unexpected happenings in my life. To approach my tarot work and this deck with a sense of joy.

2. What kind of energy will we share? Seven of Pentacles

This card shows a country maiden carrying a basket, her arm is raised to a pentacle on a beautiful tree as if to test its ripeness. Three sheep graze in the meadow behind her. This deck will be a long-term project for me. Its energy will be very fruitful, if I have the patience and time to devote to it. It is a deck that reads very easily, so anyone can pick it up and read with it...not a lot of study required. Like an apple on a tree doesn't need our help to grow. But once we pick it and eat it, its energy helps to replenish our energy. And that us what this deck feels like. It is a soul-replenishing experience.

3. Should I use my Special Edition at the Spirit Fair? Four of Pentacles

I burst out laughing when I saw this card! A man in a beautiful purple robe stands clutching an arm full of pentacles to his breast in a loving, posessive way. The look on his face says "Just try and get these away from me!" So I take that as a loud and clear NO!
I'll have to wait for them to be published and then I'll get a public working deck for the fair.

4. How will we get along? Four of Wands Rx

A man, woman and child stand in the middle of four wands. A bower of flowers over their heads. Rabbits play in the grass at their feet. One of my meanings for the Four of Wands Rx is not wanting to leave. Things have been sorely neglected around here this week because I can't keep my hands off these cards. I start doing something and then find myself wandering back to the Spirit Room and playing with my cards again. I just don't want to leave them...The man and boy on the card reminded me of my husband and son wondering if there is ever going to be clean underwear or food in this house again. So I think we are going to get along just fine. :D

5. How will everyone at Aeclectic like the Gilded when they get it? Knight of Wands

Oooooh....a very beautiful, fiery knight....it is sunset and the trees behind him have turned crimson in the setting sun (or rising, your pick). The last bit of setting sun glints off the top of the wand he is carrying. My keywords for the Knight of Wands are Lightbringer and Creativity. Well, creative is for sure...you'll find it an inspiring deck that lightens your mood when you use it, but is also very deep and spiritual in nature.

The Knight of Wands is someone who sees things in a different way. The rich illustration will help you see new things in the cards. And you will find it is a deck full of surprises and a little sense of humor. The cards are alive with light and energy. And I think everyone will be "on fire" for this deck once it comes out!

Thank-you Luna for saving and retyping that reading for me.
It was fun to read it again.
I still feel the same way about this deck and have done many more readings with it since February.
It only gets better with use!
I think the Knight of Wands will prove to be the perfect card to express what everyone will think of this amazing deck.
Thank you also for starting this study group.
Your enthusiasm is very contagious too!

Black*Cat

What a lovely thread, thanks luna (yet again).

Anyway, here's my very first Gilded reading:

1. What will you teach me?

Six of Cups: How to play, to enjoy, to make daisy chains, to fill the cups with flowers, to understand the past, & to use my cat's eyes ...

2. What do I need to bring?

Wheel of Fortune: A receptiveness to change, to seeing all sides & angles, to expect the unknown to appear from anywhere, to accept what comes.

3. How will our relationship be?

Strength: A partnership moving towards unity - each bringing their own qualities to a common purpose. A walk through the journey of life together.

I'll be interested in any comments or ideas you all might have.

Thanks for sharing with us, Black*Cat!!!

I think this was a very positive reading, and your interpretation insightful....cannot think of much to add at the moment...I would like to read it again later....when I can look at the actual cards and see if I come up with something different. Great job! :)

My First Gilded Reading

Here is the New Deck reading I did with the Gilded, on 6/28/04:

OK....first of all, let's talk about the shuffling technique.
Now I already knew that shuffling was going to be challenging,
to say the least! I mean...this is a VERY thick deck...about three times the size of a standard tarot deck. But I was determined not to let this deter me...I knew there must be a way!

I started the way I do with any new deck...and that is by randomly sorting the cards into several piles. At the same time, I was mixing up the ordered cards in my hand, so that I would not end up with too many majors or cards of the same suit all clumped together. It took a little juggling to keep the cards from spilling, but I managed to keep them in hand.

Now, after the cards had been sorted, I pulled all of the piles together into a tall stack and divided into two (still large) piles. I then proceeded to shuffle each half as I normally do; gradually sliding cards from one hand to the other, slowly and carefully. (I should mention here that these cards are VERY thick and sturdy...I was not at all worried about bending or damaging them while I shuffled. They also slide together nicely, due to the smooth, satin-laminate finish).

And then I came to the point of trying to figure out how to blend the two piles together...since my hands are not very large, I knew this would be the true test!!! I somehow managed to hold half the cards in one hand (just barely) and then slowly began sliding and dropping cards from my left hand into the ones in my right. It got a little tricky, sloppy at times...but the amazing thing is that it worked!!! And I managed to do this without dropping a single card!!!

SO...*whew*...now that the cards were shuffled to my satisfaction, I placed them on the table and found my cut.
As I was shuffling and cutting, I began to think about what I wanted to know about my new relationship with the Gilded.
I was excited and nervous, wondering what this first reading would be like. I also knew that this was an important moment for me...now that the cards had been shuffled, "broken in"¨, I would begin working with them, learning from them. They had become like a new friend to me, rather than just an interesting acquaintance.

The New Deck Spread I used, and the cards I drew are:

1--What will you teach me??? Two of Pentacles
2--What will our relationship be like??? VII The Chariot
3--What message do you have for me today??? King of Wands

1. Two of Pentacles: This card makes me think of a partnership, which is a very good sign! I think this means that we are going to work well together. The man in this card is holding two pentacles...actually they are not in his hands, but hovering over them, connected by a rainbow of light. I see this connection as one that is harmonious and spiritual...that by working with these cards, I will be able to learn more about myself and hopefully gain confidence in my reading abilities. Behind him is a calm, moonlit sea, where a ship is anchored and a dolphin leaps from the water. The ship makes me think of having a solid base to work from, feeling grounded, at ease. The dolphin to me symbolizes freedom and positive energy....

2. VII Chariot: I think this means that my cards have been sitting quietly for long enough...time to get moving!!! This is exactly how I felt today, when I decided I was finally ready to start shuffling and working with these cards! I definitely needed time to get to know them gradually...but now I am ready to get familiar with them on a completely different level. Just as I described earlier...it almost feels like a new relationship, moving from the early stages into something more intimate and substantial. The Chariot tells me that we are ready to become more active (or interactive) together and see what happens next!!! The card shows a beautiful queen dressed in royal purple, being escorted by two gorgeous Egyptian sphinx...one is gold with a colorful crown on its head, while the other is silver and black...there is movement and raw energy in this card. The queen is confident and prepared for this new journey...no turning back!!!

3. King of Wands: This is a message for my current situation, something the cards want me to know right now. The King of Wands is a creative, high-energy person who is actively pursuing his goals. I think this card is encouraging me to act on some of the ideas that I have been tossing around for awhile, yet was afraid of pursuing. I have been trying to figure out a way to use my creative talents as a way to make a living...still trying to figure out how to make it happen. My primary goal lately has been to decide on a new career...not just another JOB, if you know what I mean. Something that I really want to do, that I can be successful at while also helping others. This card looks like a green-light to me. Combined with the Chariot, I think the message becomes even more powerful: it is time to take action, take the risk and don't look back...if only I could feel as confident as the queen in her chariot!!!
