Rune Study Group: Wunjo

Haizea

My book is in Spanish (author=Macarena Rojo).

She offers a pronunciation for each rune, but for this one she says, between "únio" and "wúnyo" (for Spanish readers...that is, she is undecided the same as you above).

According to her, it means "union, joy, pleasure and glory".

As for the linguistic origin, she says the Gothic noun winja meant "fresh pasture" and "abundance/plentifulness"; also, that Anglo-saxon wynn is related to Modern English "win".

Then, an important meaning of this rune would be something like "union is winning".

I guess she has been reading other sources. I personally cannot verify any of that, but I find all this interesting, and it seems to me that you all do as well, so that's why I am telling you. :)
